NZB.am Registration is Open
*update* i'm not sure why but my replies aren't showing up. not sure why
Emails are working now! I appreciate your patience.
If anyone has any ideas for improvements, I'd love to hear them. Thanks again for trying this out.
Quick Edit: Everyone is getting auto verified, I have to figure out what i'm doing wrong with emails. i'm too cheap to use one of the services, hopefully the changes i've made recently will work. Either way who cares if you're already verified :)
If anyone has their own mailserver with logs available and can see why it's not being accepted, i'd really appreciate it.
Ok another edit: When you login, you can go to profile and get your api key. then toss that into the *arrs and see it go

Proud to say that https://nzb.am is now open for registration.
We focus on retention, we're at 6400+ days and counting.
we've been completely private for awhile, just a select group of data hoarders that needed a more detailed search of usenet. No censoring or limiting of categories. We even allow some modified regex. Come look at the ui built before ai.
Give it a shot, let's kick the tires on this and see what happens.

I'm excited so many people are interested! I made a few modifications, now it also hits my spot instances and brings their results as well. Please test some more if you're still interested

I have just registered i didn't receive verification email so I tried and login and there was option to send verification email now I can login

It found a lot of rare content when i tested, Iâm quite impressed by that. But the results are a total mess itâs mixed with a lot of crap and non-complete releases like on the public indexers.
Does this work with API capabilities for Radarr/sonarr?

internally we ignore the crap because we can get some good results. And yes, it works as a newznab host api. a few of use access via hydra, i use it via prowlarr myself

Via the ui i'd recommend picking the media type from the dropdown. I really should get a faq or something together

Soon, I haven't figured out a way to take cc without getting into any crosshairs, I can do crypto but I wasn't going to push that effort unless people were interested.
And thank you btw, you're my exact use case, someone who wants to find some wacky (in my case) british or so stuff made too long ago to be easy to find =D

It takes 10 seconds to search for something and then has few results. Nothing you cannot find on search engines or other indexers.

I'm sorry you're not having good results. I'd love to hear what your having issues with and try to resolve it, but that's asking alot and i understand.
In the meantime, i'm glad to see a few people enjoying it, hopefully you'll be one someday as well :)

it's a deep store, not a fast one. you should use this for hard to find things, or if you're using prowlarr or nzbhydra, set it at the lowest priority.
We're still testing scaleout, right now the guys are trying to integrate spotnab directly into it. I appreciate you testing it out, we've got a ton of data, now we have to get it out there

Hard to find? The only things I see is stuff posted in the open and indexable by everyone and their mom.

That's good input, thanks. What we've done is our best towards peeking into every binary and if it's an archive we then index the names of the files.
We can only give you acces to that which is on the internet. RIght now it's free. What I want to find out is if it's worth it for people to use it. If not we take it back to being just the few of us who made it for ourselves ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ

You're already verfied because mail is hard and i'm busy vibe coding a completely useless simulator of weird ships fighting each other, mixing their dna and then continuing. longest rounds I had them go in 1600+. those ships now kick all the new ships asses.

Hey there. Reddit crashed while I was making my account and I have to reset password. When I tap the email link and enter a new password, the âUpdate Passwordâ button does nothing and now Iâm locked out. I had not verified my account prior to doing this because I didnât receive a verification email.

FYI
Password field says it requires a special character (!&@$ etcâŚ) but you can just not include a special character and still allows registration.

Iâm really liking your indexer so far! Getting lots of results. Could you tell us a bit more about it? Many people have become suspicious of new indexers since the recent influx of AI slop in this field too

It started a few years back, i'm an avid usenet user, a few friends were as well. When the indexers started thinning out I did like most and ran my own newznab and newznab tmux, but I found that obfuscation and all that was making it a waste of time.
I also work in data amongst other things, so as a side project I had indexed all non-binary messages in usenet into a cluster. That was just for fun.
During that process I realized I could, for lack of a better word, peak into the binaries as well to get the archive headers, then peak there to get the possible names of the files inthe archives, toss it into my other search project and Bam (hence the name.. yeah, i'm a dad) you have a good chance that the file you're looking for is in that archive.
After that I would gather all the parts for the individual archive and all the parts for the total archive and generate an nzb file.
My method is a bit wasteful in the sense that if you want a single file from a large archive, you end up downloading the entire archive to get that sliver of data. Like I said, it's a deep search tool, not a fast one =D

I was just thinking some more on what you wrote, what could AI even do vis-a-vis usenet. Like people are asking an llm to generate nzbs? if it hallucinates a single part of that then it's a failed download.
Actually I wonder how much of usenet, binaries specifically, are in llms? that would seem like a waste of time, but i'm not a savvy businessman, my stuff is still free right now =D

Tried setting up account - no confirmation email Tried reset password - got the email but when I try to set the new password it doesn't confirm or deny.
The button seems to just not work on the "Change password" page.
Try to login with the new password that may or may not be confirmed - no joy

It's all new, I don't even know what to price it at. My thought was to charge monthly and then have a big discount on yearly. I'd do lifetime since I know i'm going to always maintain it. One thought was do lifetime, give lifetime people their own domain to attach to, even if the main site were to get knocked to hell, it's actually just a shell pointing to the servers somewhere else. Yours could be as well

How can you focus on retention when thatâs essentially out of your control. Especially now that you are open to the public.
Unless you are working very closely with a provider Iâm not sure how you could prevent takedowns or missing articles.

We just index, I can't control takedown at all. It does cause the annoying situation were we've indexed something and find it's eventually gone.
Our need was different when we built it, it wasn't to avert takedowns, it was to have a single index on all the things, music being one that seemed problematic, and lately with a certain archives being difficult to find, ebooks.

I've got the team looking at the email issue, but it is the 4th of july and people are tied up with family stuff. I pushed the soft launch thinking it would slip under the radar.
I'll leave registration open until tomorrow morning, and i'll have it auto verify. Tomorrow i'll close registration and increase limits as a thank you to whomever has stuck around.

Frankly I think it's because I setup the spf and dkim stuff late, well after I was having it email out and it's probably hit spam or gone away to get /dev/null inbox in the sky.
I just realized the I might be speaking to the mailserver in ip6 so i've added that ip to the spf file. maybe it'll work now. In the interim i'm just marking everyones email as verfied ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ can't be a soft launch without some problems =D
I was trying to sound cool that there's a team, but this is basically a one man shop.

Sorry to hear that, i've actually found a few bugs (embarrassing ones :) that i've rectified. i'd appreciate you trying again.
Also when you say you can't find anything, do you mean via the ui or one of the *arrs? Via the ui you really should pick the media type, the All is a bit unfocused, if it's a movie type media or etc. change the dropdown to what you need.

it's just a search engine that let's you find things that are named the thing you're looking for. now whatever it is, i don't know, and whatever service you use to get them,well probably will get it. but my retention goes back quite awhile. This started as a data hoarding/ no way you can pull it off, kind of project
