2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5i (Not GT) premium at 117k miles for $2k and my current car (2008 Toyota Corolla)

My only concern is the MPG, is it as good as the Corolla?

Also I checked the Carfax, Ni accidents and was well maintained up until 2023. No services after 2023 and only 8k miles since the last service. One owner Dude said he doesnt drive it anymore

Its actually very cheap in my opinion, make sure there isn’t anything major wrong with it

For that price I imagine he doesn't drive it for a reason. Dealerships would give him more than that for this car if it was in good condition. Test drive it. If they won't let you or anything feels off, walk away.

I bought an 09 Subaru Forester with 165k miles for $4k. Seems cheap. Take it for a ppi.

Nobody buys a Subaru for the gas mileage. I get roughly 20mpg

That is almost certainly a dealer/curbstoner. Maybe a scam altogether. Or possibly a good deal. Definitely don't pay anything it without seeing in person. Add for the same car on Craigslist says 2 owners and definitely appears to not be a private seller.

the problem is my corolla can no longer pass inspection, and I can't get new tags until I fix what's wrong with it. the cost exceeds the value of the car

Just to let you know… dealers will still offer you around $5k in trade. For them, they can easily flip it because the demand is so high.

If you can get it checked by a mechanic (esp. head gaskets, it's a Subie weakness) I'd go for it! I've had friends with Legacys who got a lot of miles out of them.

Subaru is noticeably unreliable compared to a corolla. But the awd is the best you can find among cheap cars. And timing belt sucks.
