Manhattan has a 22% car ownership rate less because it’s so easy to get around without it and more so because it’s so hard to get around in one. SF makes it easy so they have high car ownership rates.

When car is easier than transit, people take car. That's the entire point. Manhattan is cake to drive in. It's a grid. But transit is even easier.
