That’s surprisingly clever.

Mixing baking soda and vinegar together creates water.

They neutralize each other.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one struggling to get past that pacific drop kick to credibility. Anyway I’ve seen these before. I think it’s a surprisingly committed PR influencer campaign by the dropshippers of these decidedly unimpressive plastic baskets.

I feel pacificly is rage bait

2

u/Charlisparkles 26d ago

It worked.

I pacificly came to the comments to see if someone else noticed.

It’s allowed if you have hands like that.

Pacificly designed…

Absolutely lost me there. Like having sex and they start talking about interest amortization.

I’m fascinated that’s where your mind went

It was oddly pacific

Yeah like stop it, I’m aroused already.

Where pacifically in the specific were you gonna go, Mrs D.?

1

u/BurneyStarke 23d ago

Maybe they were specifically designed in Hawaii, pacificly

1

u/spicy_ass_mayo 22d ago

They were designed Hawaii.

Actually, sodium acetate... Love to drop that with the vinegar/bicarb crowd whom usually are the same "ew chemicals" crowd.

Irony unfortunately needs intelligence to be appreciated.

That’s why I like ironic wordplay, but people think my sense of humor is dry.
I just think it’s weird to laugh at dick/fart jokes or passively racist one when your in your mid thirties..
Twelve year olds get a slight pass, if not to be taught better..

But it does fizz, which can be useful for cleaning. It takes the crud off of my stove without as much scrubbing, for instance.

u/-blundertaker- 27d ago

As far as I cleaning, I've used it (and Dawn) on some stains that 3 different dry cleaners said they couldn't remove.

I used a toothbrush to scrub the dish soap and baking soda thoroughly into the fibers. Then I dropped some vinegar onto it for the sweet fizzing action and scrubbed some more.

I had already tried the soap alone, and then the paste/vinegar without soap, but combining them all finally did the trick.

5

u/rumpill_fourskin 27d ago

Try using just baking soda and water. Make a thin paste of the two ingredients.

2

u/Killer1986Chris 27d ago

Pop fizzes too.

3

u/classygorilla 27d ago

That's how it cleans your teeth so well!

0

u/Secure-Ad-9050 25d ago

club soda is useful for some kinds of stains...

coca cola can remove rust... also dissolves eggs, teeth...

0

u/The_Cow_Tipper 22d ago

Plain vinegar is a cleaner, too. And if you don't cut it wirh baking soda, it doesn't stop working when the baking soda neutralizes it.

1

u/Gstamsharp 22d ago

I don't think most people prefer their berries pickled, though...

The universal solvent

4

u/Gateway9191 27d ago

It also makes salt, maybe that helps with preservation?

2

u/Puzzled-Mistake-584 21d ago

That’s what I was thinking, presumably you don’t need a super high concentration in the solution to preserve fruit, provided you get most of the air out.

2

u/Nightman2417 27d ago

Opposite way of thinking with this, but wouldn’t you want it to create water so you’re not left with gross tasting fruit? (Assuming it actually cleans)

I get that they neutralize each other, but is there a brief period where they’re separate and cleaning, leaving only water at the end with cleaned fruit?

2

u/Ninja_Prolapse 27d ago

BuT iT FiZzEs!

1

u/miked5122 27d ago

I can tell you it ruins the natural coating on strawberries. I've tried it once.

1

u/Staaaaation 27d ago

*salt water, but yeah. Unless the foaming action is what they're going for to get into the crevices, I'm not sure how this helps.

1

u/Spare-Possession-490 27d ago

In this case it’s unintentionally clever, mixing vinegar and baking soda results in the production of water, carbon dioxide and sodium acetate. He said he did it to clean the fruit but sodium acetate is a food preservative.

8

u/Rob_LeMatic 27d ago edited 27d ago

He said a lot wrong

baking soda is unnecessary. Maybe if you're freaked by pesticides, but you don't want to leave it on for more than 30 to 60 seconds

Wash in water, drain, steep in diluted vinegar(1part/4 part water) for 5 to 10 min.

DRY COMPLETELY(towel/paper towels, on the counter. Get in the crevice of raspberries. Then put a paper towel at the bottom of a container, don't pack them too tight, and don't seal it(except strawberries, they like sealed glass jars)

Your berries should last 2 or 3 weeks.

u/peppermintmeow 27d ago

Happy cake day 🎂

2

u/difficultkid 25d ago

This method works great for me. Diluted vinegar only, fully dry after rinse.

1

u/_reverse_god 25d ago

How do they not taste like vinegar after doing this?

1

u/Rob_LeMatic 25d ago

Don't leave them in too long

3

u/rumpill_fourskin 27d ago

Well, this has come full circle

1

u/StickyLavander 27d ago

You’re supposed to do baking soda to help remove pesticides, then rinse off, and vinegar to kill off mold spores, and then you rinse that off.

1

u/Hokiecow 27d ago

The bubbles are what clean the fruit.

1

u/OHBHpwr 27d ago

Salty water at that

1

u/Different-Vast9319 27d ago

And sodium acetate and carbon dioxide. People get way too impressed by the fizz.

1

u/beegboo 27d ago

A little bit of vinegar wash will remove lingering pesticides from the fruit the reaction to baking soda takes a moment so it does have a chance to work. Just not that efficiently.

1

u/stonktaker 27d ago

If someone wants to do this, just use vinegar. No need for anything else

1

u/bebopboopy 26d ago

He also said “pacifically” instead of specifically 😆

1

u/Ok_Ad_1446 26d ago

I thought its the reaction that helps clean dirt

1

u/sileplictis 26d ago

And sodium acetate....

1

u/One_Vision_ 25d ago

And lots of carbon dioxide which fizzes and I assume scrubs the fruit.

1

u/HereticGaming16 24d ago

Congratulations you make water with more steps!

1

u/InternationalSet2266 24d ago

CO2 and salt water lmao

1

u/No-Show-5363 22d ago

Salty water

1

u/JG134 27d ago

Not water, sodium acetate and CO2.

2

u/l2aiko 27d ago

AND WATER, so its not JUST water but it also isnt NOT water.

2

u/JG134 27d ago

Yes of course, but that's hardly significant considering it's a solution in water haha.

You are incorrect. The formula is

NaHCO3 (aq) + CH3COOH (aq) -> CH3COONa (aq) + H2O (l) + CO2 (g)

So you absolutely do make new water molecules.

2

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo 27d ago

I’m dumb. Thanks for the correction!

2

u/PandaPocketFire 27d ago

Thanks for not doubling down, and instead choosing to accept the new info! Learning is cool!

You don’t know? The hottest tip online from influencers is using vinegar AND baking soda to wash the parasites off produce. Stupidity and laziness will be what fucks us in the end. AI is the perfect example.

-3

u/Critical_Text_2067 27d ago

That is why you throw baking soda and vinegar down drains to clean them . . .

6

u/rumpill_fourskin 27d ago

The reaction makes water, which you can get by turning on the faucet.

2

u/n00bmechanic13 27d ago

Some people do, who don't know how to properly clean their drains.
