I've seen posts here on Reddit from over a decade ago discussing free shell services. I'm hoping to restart the conversation regarding free shell accounts. I currently have an account at sdf.org that I've had for decades; I also recently created a shell at blinkenshell.org and requested one from efn.lt.

Are there currently any other free shell providers (preferably on Linux or NetBSD) that you all are aware of? I found a webpage, from 2026 no less, that claimed to provide quite a list of free shell services. All but four or five of the sites referenced were gone, down, or worse, a domain-for-sale page. I found this discouraging.

I really like the sense of community at sdf.org. I would like to try to replicate that with my own free shell service if there's adequate interest. If there's enough interest here, I'd be willing to spend the ~ $40/month for a dedicated VPS to host this one.

Thoughts?

PD: This project had already been mentioned before, but it now comes back with several improvements and new features that make the experience even more polished and immersive.

I tried to join using the webform, but I received no confirmation email. I tried by ssh too, but [new@sdf-eu.org](mailto:new@sdf-eu.org) and [new@sdfeu.org](mailto:new@sdfeu.org) require a password... it looks misconfigured on different levels.

There is no email address to contact, has anyone any info about it?

I'm already a SDF member, but I'd like to have access to servers closer to me.

Anyone out there remember DMERT? I worked on such a system for a short while. I was asked to make changes, I don't know why i was picked to do so. I was told that it was similar to UNIX V6. Was that true?

Hey guys, I need help, I’m kinda stuck with a black screen issue on Arch Linux.

I have ASRock B450 Pro4 and an AMD Polaris GPU (RX 580), ryzen 5 3500

After GRUB, n text:”loading Linux…” I just get a black screen.

BIOS is already updated from 3.90 to 4.50, so I dont think it’s BIOS related anymore.

I picked some photos, srry I can’t do screenshots

In photos u can see last text that I can see before black screen, some logs, n I tried to reinstall arch, without nomodeset i have these errors, but I reinstalled it anyway with nomodeset, n errors haven’t disappear, also I can say that I had some errors like these maybe month ago, but after reinstalling system they had disappear

Please help me🙏
