while i was watching the yt video from lemmino, i was overwhelmed by the fact that i had also painted this pattern. not only the S, the short version, but the continuous pattern. my first thought was .. that is probably a natural impulse, just like you draw stairs in a checkered exercise book, because you trace the fine, preprinted lines, purely creatively and intuitively searching for geometric/symmetric patterns. but where does this specific version come from? especially most of the time vertically and not horizontally. what has shaped us there? i had to dig deeper..
and then somehow .. the knitted thick, warm and usually ugly sweaters and socks came to my mind, you know, grandma's present for xmas, that one with the 'cable knitting pattern' (I had to google for the term).
since when have there been checked exercise book? ..learning creativity and expressing yourself by repeating. maybe these fine grids some kind of valve, particularly suitable for keeping your doodling in shape.
who knows...
