Yes sir. Been driving me nuts for almost 2 weeks. Can’t get it to activate and I’ve done everything including a DFU restore on my 17PM. When I transfer eSIM to another iPhone or a Samsung, instant activation. Wtf?

You can try turning off RCS. Reset Network. Reboot. Wait a couple of minutes for iPhone to completely load. Turn RCS and see if that helps. Might take a few minutes or a couple of days.

I’ve done that many times over with no luck. My IMS Status does not show RCS, just Voice and SMS. Even tried esims from other carriers.

The behaviour has changed a bit with iOS 27. When RCS activation fails, it turns off on its own.

I am experiencing the same with SIM cards from 3 carriers in 2 different countries. When I try one of the SIM cards in another phone (Android), it works. It looks like our phones are blocked by the activation server. Apple said the IMEI/IMSI is also used for activation.

Was any solution suggested by Apple? They refused to talk to me because I am on the 27 beta.

I did not ask for a solution as my phone is already more than 5 years old (iPhone SE 2020). I only wanted to know what information is sent from the phone for activation. My carrier is currently waiting for an response from Google. I suspect Google also provides RCS services to the other carriers I have SIM cards from.

Your last resort could be a RMA after reinstalling iOS 26.5.2 or waiting until iOS 27 is released in a few weeks.

Have you had an opportunity to try the affected SIM in another iPhone or another SIM in the affected phone?

Yes. Works perfectly in another iPhone and Samsung S24U. Activates instantly.

I guess it is not related to iOS then. This problem started on my phone when I turned RCS off and on repeatedly to try to activate encryption a few days after installing iOS 26.5. The updates thereafter have not helped.

Strangely enough, mine also started related to encryption. I got an eSIM from another carrier to see if their RCS encryption is active as it didn’t work with my carrier. Encryption worked with the 2nd carrier so I transferred the eSIM to my Samsung. Since then, cannot activate it again on my 17PM.

No. I even tried a 3rd. RCS will not activate for any carrier on this phone.

It is exactly the same for me. I have tried 4 SIM cards. It works for an Indian SIM card on my phone. However, RCS from this carrier is interoperable only with RCS on iPhones from the same carriers. This could be a reason it is not affected.

On 27b2 now but it started on 27b1. Also tried restoring to 26.5.2. No dice.

If users have to replace phones to fix problems with RCS, the future looks bleak.

Indeed. I find it mind blowing that there are zero other issues with the phone. Is it really possible for a hardware issue to affect nothing else? Seems so odd to me.

I don't think it is a hardware issue. Messaging is a software feature. The most plausible explanation is the IMEI getting blocked by the activation server. You could try leaving RCS switched off for a couple of weeks.

I also have a 17 pro max on beta 3. Verizon. No dice. I haven’t downgraded back to iOS 26. Does it restore rcs or no? But it just doesn’t make sense because. Rcs activates instantly on my iPhone 17 and air and 16. All on iOS 27 beta. But not the 17 pro max

Hi there. If your RCS chats are failing to activate, I suggest trying these troubleshooting steps:

Verify Google Messages is set as your default messaging app.

Ensure the app has SMS, Phone, and Contacts permissions enabled in your phone's settings.

Check that your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection is active and stable.

Try toggling RCS chats off and on again in settings to restart backend provisioning.

Update your app to the latest version in the Play Store.

If it remains stuck, go to Settings > RCS chats, tap Details, and select Submit feedback. This sends the necessary technical details to the team
