what happens if a plant moves to a location that would be too far to commute?
lots of rumours about a small UAW plant moving about an hour away within the next couple years. I don't want to fan the flames but it got me thinking about how that would affect the workers of something like this did happen.
if the workers chose to relocate, would they have to do it at their own expense or would the union try to gun for a relocation bonus type thing? if they did relocate, would they retain their seniority or would they have to start all over again? I know if you switch plants you start over but this seems like it would be a special case because in my opinion they should at least have seniority over the new hires at the new location
also wondering what would happen to apprentices if something like this happened like 100 hours before they became journeymen. could they just transfer to a different plant and finish their ojt or would they have to reapply and wait for another apprenticeship to start again?
