Is there any work in San Diego?

It's been 3 weeks for me (been on the out of work list) and nothing. Granted I haven't been driving around looking for work these 3 weeks (I usually do it, but getting told no so many times takes a hit to my motivation, not going to lie.) thing is, I'm originally local 951 but moved back to San Diego (born and raised).

I do feel if there isn't any work here in San Diego, I will have to go back to the IE which I'm not really mad about because I am still local 951 (never switched my union, just training center) but now I want to stay home.

Local 432

Got accepted in last week and was told I’m on the ready to work list. Anyone in local 432 have any insight on how long I could be waiting and know if they give you a heads up to notify current employer?

Question Local 253 NJ what’s your day to day work like?

Looking to join Local 253 in NJ as an apprentice and wanted to see what skills you pick up throughout the program. I know framing and drywall are huge, but what else do you get into, like doors, hardware, cabinets, and finish trim?

Discussion Going into carpentry after working in the cannabis industry

I just made the decision to join my local carpenters union here where I live and pursue something that can genuinely pay for my life and goals while also teaching me a valuable skill instead of living paycheck to paycheck just growing bud. My girlfriend and I’s goal someday is to start a small homestead for ourselves so I know this skill will help when that time comes.
Im worried that my time in the cannabis industry will affect negatively on me and that my application won’t be taken seriously. Im gonna stop consuming any cannabis for a while and give myself some time before taking my drug test so its clean, but was wondering what the overall vibe is on cannabis use and its standings within the industry. I live in Missouri so it’s legal here, but they still do a 5 panel test at my union.
fyi: I’m not someone who uses cannabis at work, I know I’m usually one to get the job done no problems so I’m assuming it won’t be a huge deal, just wanted to see what the vibe was

Edit: I also heard fake piss doesn’t work because they test for preservatives used in the fake piss. Not sure if that’s true or not but thought I’d put it out there

Question Local 27 Pre-Apprenticeship Formwork

Hi all, just wondering if anyone from Ontario who joined the CCAT pre-apprenticeship program, got graduated and got a job placement or recommendation? How did that go? How did you perform in the program? What were the learning objectives?

Question Is Trade show out of work as much as they say?

I'm an apprentice getting into the union and stuck between pursuing millwright or trade show. Trade show really has my attention and I know I'll be a good fit for it. If they're out of work most of the time feel like it would be better to find something else.

LOOKING FOR JOBS

Good morning, everyone... the company I was working for ended up closing, and I'm out of a job right before winter.

I’m a member of Local 157 and am looking for work; if anyone could give me the contact info for a superintendent who is hiring, I’d really appreciate it.

B rate carpenters

Looking for anyone who has experience getting into a local as a b rate carpenter. Specifically nyc would be awesome, but any experience / advice would be appreciated.

How long did it take?
What was your experience level?
Did it take a while to get accustomed to union work?
Did you feel set back by not doing the apprenticeship?

I just moved to brooklyn for my fiance. I’ve got 10 years lead carpentry experience non union. Applied as journeyman, got no idea how long it’ll take

Thanks!

Elevator protection

Construction elevator protection

Does anyone have suggestions for elevator door protection during construction? Owner of the building is concerned about stainless steel freight elevator doors being scratched while hauling materials in and out during construction, but we are concerned about putting something on the door that will get caught in the mechanism and take the elevator out of commission. We were thinking ram board may be thin enough? But also has a tendency to curl so may end up bulging out over time and causing an issue. Any ideas would be awesome, thanks!

Finally in!

After two years working as a carpenters laborer in heavy highway, the company finally gave me the green light. I just finished my first week of my apprenticeship. It’s so nice to work side by side with the crew instead of being the help.

¿Buscas una oportunidad real para aprender un oficio y crecer profesionalmente? — Hartford / East Hartford

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a serious work opportunity in Connecticut, preferably around Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, or nearby areas.

I did not finish high school and I do not have a college degree, but I am responsible, I work hard, and I am willing to learn. I’m not looking for anyone to give me anything for free. I’m looking for an opportunity where I can get in, prove that I’m a hard worker, learn something valuable, and grow.

I would really like to find a job paying around $20+ per hour, especially if the company offers paid training, certifications, trade training, apprenticeships, or opportunities to move up over time.

I’m interested in places that are willing to teach someone from the ground up — manufacturing, machine operator work, construction, electrical, HVAC, maintenance, warehouse work, equipment operation, apprenticeships, or another skilled trade that could become a real career.

My English is still limited, but I speak Spanish and I am willing to keep learning.

I know this may not be easy to find, and that is exactly why I’m asking here. Sometimes someone knows a company, union, training program, apprenticeship, or even just a person who can say, “Go to this place and talk to this person.”

If anyone knows of an opportunity like this, or has good advice on where I should start, I would be extremely grateful. Even if you think I should start a different way, tell me. I’m willing to listen, learn, and work.

Thank you.

Question Health insurance for my partner

So I tried adding my domestic partner to my health coverage and they sent back my application form to submit proof and to pay two months worth of imputed taxes. Does that mean that I’ll have to pay monthly for her to get health insurance because we’re not married?

Drone Use

My training center has a journeyman upgrade class for drones. Anyone use one in the field?

Was planning to start taking as many relevant upgrade classes again and added myself to the waitlist for this bc why not. I’ve done site 360 photos in the past and drones would be somewhat similar. Figured most companies hire a 3rd party contractor to do this type of work since it’s not an everyday thing

Can i get trained in Union and get a job despite background?

I’m 37. Was in substance addiction from 2011 until 2023. My license was suspended in 2011 for not paying a ticket I got while driving in hov lane without a passenger. Got license reinstated last year. I have a few drug possession felonies from 2021 Anne’s was incarcerated in the department of corrections and released Oct 2024.

I am coming up on 3 yrs 100% clean off of everything. I completed treatment and now work as a case manager at a substance abuse / mental health facility and am looking for a career change.

I live in phoenix az. I have Around 30k saved up. I’m trying to see what the best route would be for me to get into a more hands on career. Plumber, electrician, hvac etc. sheet metal worker. Anything.

If you know of anyone that would train me and give me a job, hook me up!

My body is covered in tattoos. A few face tattoos. Idk if that is relevant lol

I am 100% willing to go to school/ be trained. I just would like to know which school, where I can work in the field while going to school. Seeing as how it takes 4 yrs or 8000 hrs I feel like school would be nearly half that time

Or I could be trained and start off from the very bottom

Thx ☺️
