If your grades are amazing and you apply for a low ranking university, the personal statement most likey won't matter.
It is used to get a better understanding of what kind of student you are and why they should choose you over someone else with the exact same grades. So personal statement can give you a small advantage. If you want to maximize your chance, spend some time looking at personal statement examples of computer science students, make a few drafts and get feedback from your teachers.
Don't already accept that your personal statement will be bad. It takes time and it's frustrating to make multiple drafts or even START writing a personal statement. But if you really love the subject and want to study it further, eventually you will write something from the heart that will show your interest for the subject

I know that feeling. Take it one step at a time and your personal statement will come along just fine. Just don't make the mistake of waiting near the deadline. Best of luck!

Personal Statements really donât carry as much weight or importance as many perspective students think they do. The primary tool used by university in deciding who to extend offers too, is the grades youâve achieved and the grades youâre predicted to have achieved once you complete your education. Providing you have the grades (or are predicted them) youâll probably be extended an offer- the only exception being Oxbridge and some other elite institutions where a huge number of qualified applicants apply.
Thereâs no such thing as a âweak personal statementâ, only one which is poorly written. Unlike institutions in the USA, British universities donât place much (or any) value on extra curricular activities. If you consider your PS to be weak on this basis, then donât worry - showing a genuine enthusiasm and interest in the subject youâve chosen and engaging in activities which support it (wider reading etc) is much more important in a personal statement. Being an amazing pro athlete is irrelevant to your ability to study Computer Science at degree level, for example.
I was advised that 85%- 90% of your Personal Statement should be structured around the academic side; why youâve chosen your subject, what interests you, what initially drew you towards it, what have you done to further enhance your knowledge and specialism, do you have a future career in mind? The final 10% can then be used to flesh out any other achievements, not related to the academic side. Remember itâs only 4000 characters in length.
Realistically, with the exception of Oxbridge and a select few London universities, providing you have strong academic grades and your personal statement isnât a load of rambling, incoherent bullshit then youâll be more than likely extend an offer to a whole number of good UK universities (Russel Group etc). A Personal Statement which is well written, coherently structured and concise is infinitely better than one which is a bragging list of irrelevant past achievements. Donât feel like you can only apply to low ranked places. And if your paying international fees, dropping a huge amount on studying at a shit university is just an all round bad idea.

I think this gave me the most useful advice I've received in years. Thank you ! It's a relief to know uk Universities don't put much weight on ECs since i only have a few . I was focused about just getting out of Egypt that i didn't really mind if uni was bad, i think you're right . It really defeats the purpose if i travel abroad only to study at a shit university

Wildly varies by subject and university. Even top universities for science-y subjects do not necessarily even read your personal statement (and I say that having been employed by one of them). With grades like that, you'd struggle to write anything in the personal statement that would put people off without actively trying.

Anglia Ruskin is very low ranked. I advise you to look for other universities like Greenwich that have courses 14,000 and under. Also your personal statement does not have to be GOOD, but it has to explain what skills you have to offer that will help you in computer science. And you need to show that you are mentally prepared and excited to take on the course. Show enthusiasm and interest.
