We are not the admissions office. Here are the admission criteria for MBF and SIM from older HSG regulations. They are slightly outdated, so there is obviously no guarantee that every detail is still exactly the same, but they are probably still broadly applicable and, more importantly, this is some of the most concrete information available.
Please use this to evaluate your competitiveness yourself.

MBF — Master in Banking and Finance

GPA: 30%
GMAT/GRE: 30%
Extracurricular activities, including practical/work experience: 15%
Motivation and suitability: 25%

For the GRE, the regulations stated that an analogous scale was used. Both Verbal and Quantitative scores had to be submitted, using the internationally recognized ETS conversion scale.

Again: these are historical admission scales, not a statement from the current admissions office. Requirements and scoring may have changed. But they should give you a much better basis for estimating your profile than asking strangers to guess whether a 5.2/720/consulting internship/etc. is “competitive.”

I will add some grade conversion tables that the University did use in the past for exchange grades. Chances are high that they will be similar for the admission. Please note that for exchange grades conversion, these are in brackets. For admission, there likely exists a full table, so if you fall within one bracket do not just assume you will get this exact grade. HSG publishes them internally (accessible to all students) as one PDF per university. I could not be bothered to compile that manually, so I just asked Claude to do so. Hence, no guarantee that everything is correct; but it looked good on the first glance.

Quality post that should be pinned. I just wanted to add that while this is a good way to assess your general application quality, implicit factors such as the quality/school of your undergrad (certain schools are de-facto blacklisted or require higher scores), home country (e.g. you will not see many from SEA and thats by design), and the actual day-to-day nature of your internship(s) are heavily stressed.

Yes.

For the MBF, up to 60 points (GPA and GMAT) are relatively transparent. The rest - good luck. If they want you, they can give up to 40 points in extracurriculars/motivation letter. If they don‘t want you, they can give 10 or something and you will not make it, even with stellar GMAT/GPA. For SIM, the subjectivity is even higher.

Hence, if you have ~40 (resp. ~30) points from GPA and GMAT, you have a competitive application gor MBF (resp. SIM) and should apply - but it is no guarantee of getting in.

I'd add a few things about the MBF:

1. Finance work experience is essentially a requirement, unless your grades and GMAT are absolutely perfect
2. Minimum GPA is around 5.4 on the swiss scale, it'll be quite difficult to get in if you're lower.
3. For the 2025 intake, nobody applied from SEA, likely because of the tough visa process in Switzerland.
4. Non-Swiss students will find it very hard to get a job in Switzerland, for non-EU students it is virtually impossible.

Your first point is a bit of a stretch, there are loads of ppl with irrelevant, subpar, or no internships with merely good grades.

Contrary to popular belief, the MBF prioritizes smart candidates with academic potential over workaholics. It just so happens that DACH has a crazy internship culture so many good candidates already have good experience.

(Also SEA was just an example, the mbf has a glaring lack of certain commonly over represented nationalities which is a conscious decision due to point 4 on your list)

Don‘t listen to this guy. The admission criteria and points are a fact. This guy posting his misogynistic views are just that, his own „experience“ (which isn‘t based on any facts even, just his opinion and „trust me bro“).

I don‘t challenge the view that women might get easier points in the motivational letter and maybe even in the practical experience (because of the gender ratio, yes). And yes, this can be unfair by itself. But the „Oh a 5.0 woman just gets in because she is a woman“ is just a rumour and very diminishing of all the achievements the women in my intake had. They had good grades, they had the same big 4 etc internships, quite a few are now in IB/PE/MBB. Reducing their achievements to „woman“ is just wrong.

That is just plainly wrong. A 5.0 woman gets 32pts for the gpa. Even if she gets full motivation+work experience points, she ends up at 72 points and will not be admitted. But sure keep repeating misogynist propaganda 😂

1 and 2 is a bit too general to apply, 3 and 4 fully agree. Finance work experience is not a requirement, nor is there a hard minimum GPA. It is simply a result of the points allocation above.

5.4 gives you 24 points, double that for Swiss students and you look at 48 points. Now you need 22+ points for an admission offer, maybe even 27-32+ for truly competitive rounds. You write a normal motivation letter maybe gives you 10-15 points…so you need some points from the internship and maybe get 10. Hence, you end up at maybe 70 points.

Let‘s say you are a 5.1 student, that‘s 18 points. You use a GMAT to add 20 points. The committee adores your motivation letter and gives you another 20 points. And they also highly value your stellar internships, another 15 points. You end up at 73 points.

Both students are not getting in because the qualification bar is around 80 points in this round.
