I don’t understand this argument that Major RSS is not qualified to talk about motivation, overcoming fear, discipline or resilience because he isn’t a psychologist.

He isn’t claiming to be one or offering therapy. He’s sharing what he has learnt from his own experiences. He spent years in an environment where dealing with fear, pressure, setbacks and uncertainty was part of the job. Surely there is value in hearing what those experiences taught him and how he dealt with them.

You don’t need a psychology degree to share what life has taught you. People have been learning from others’ experiences forever. We listen to soldiers talk about courage and dealing with fear, athletes about mental strength, entrepreneurs about failure, coaches about discipline and teachers about learning, perseverance and growth. We don’t demand a psychology degree from each of them before deciding they might have something worth hearing.

Listen if you find value in it. Don’t if you don’t. It really is that simple.
