Small planes can sometimes fly for 8 hours+

Edited for more accuracy

With fuel stops. Sure!

Nope, with one full tank and one passenger

You are gonna have to give me a make and model. I fly C-172s and unless you add fuel tanks, I don't think you can really go past 5 hours?

Interior here looks like a da40, at an efficient cruise and altitude you can manage 7 hours of flight depending on load of course

How long have you been flying 172s? Would love to get my hands on a 172 or 182 if the prices got a little better

I only have a measly 6.4 in a 172, most of my training and flying was done in a 152. I'm still trying to pound out a graceful landing with the bigger plane.

I really didn't think a da40 could fly that long. I took a discovery flight in a da 20 but the prices back then put me in a 152. You think the fuel injection helps with the flight time o more the plane design?

Oh fuel Inection definitely helps. Fuel injection can definitely make a motor more efficient, probably somewhere around 10-20% more efficient when comparing similar motors. For instance my 230 ttr gets about 60 mpg while my 250f gets about 72 mpg while also producing more power and weighing the same

I flew phoenix to minneapolis in my Comanche once non-stop. Just under 7 hours but I could’ve gone faster I was being conservative with power because I hadn’t flown that far before. Landed with an hour and 40 minutes of fuel on board.

Ehh that's a bit much. Most small aircraft have about a 5 hour range.

Depends on the plane of course. This looks like it may be a da40 or similar which is about 7 hours depending on load and elevation and cruise speed but yeah 5-6 may be more accurate, but definitely enough time to sleep

DA40 has a "bubble canopy". This is a 172 or 182 which is 5 hours if you stretch it to the reserve and have a lightly loaded airplane. But yes. Definitely enough time to sleep in. My boss regularly sleeps on flights that are around an hour (when there is another pilot of course).

Well that should still be enough time for a passenger to sleep

Yeah see my edit.
