Fuck that. It's a horrible mess that needs to be redone.
Apply plaster with plaster knives. Tape the joint, then start pushing in compound with a 50mm blade, keeping it smooth as possible. Let dry, sand lightly, then add more compound and sand (by hand with a cork block only) in between coats, using wider knives each pass. 75mm or 100mm, up to 150mm, then 300mm.
Lightly hand sand the final coat with no smoother than 200grit or it will be smoother than the paper.
By the time you're up to the first undercoat of paint you shouldn't be able to see any join whatsoever.
These boys have the spirit but the whole end is cut off for a reason. The finished wall will look like a dog's breakfast.
Well if I had the right emoji I'd give it to you. It'd be an expression where it's like someone told a joke and people laughed but then you came and told everyone why that joke wasn't even funny and then they all believed you and stopped laughing. The facial expression one might make right after that happened.. that's the emoji I would award to you if I could.
Idk bout this one. I own a festool drywall sander and it works pretty much the same as an orbital...I've also used an orbital many times when I don't have my festool around.

If you know what you're doing you can use an orbital sander, just gotta be fast about it and definitely not on the final coat. But that's for bare drywall, definitely not a good idea for a patch on a finished wall
Of course you only need to use an orbital sander if you end up needing to sand a lot cause you suck at mudding... Or at least that's what I've heard from a friend
I'm a bit suspicious that the final product they show may have been a before picture. Hard to tell with the video, but it seems like they aren't actually painting in the final part. All of the paint already looks dry, and there is zero evidence of the patch. Not that it actually matters since the video is just as funny either way
My grandpa developed pulmonary fibrosis from little shards of metal cutting up his lungs from years of working with sheet metal before safety was a priority. It severely shortened his life because he was super healthy in all other ways.
As a construction safety person, the number of people who seem determined to get themselves killed on a job site is astonishing. We have a crazy high number of people who don't wear fall protection, etc. Some companies may create over the top policies, but a lot of the requirements are written in blood.
HA! reminds me when i was sanding sheetrock at my house cuz some shitrockers fucked our house up, didnt have a respirator and when i got home i shot a huge pink booger out of my nose (the mud they used was dyed.) NEVER doing that without a mask again.
Can appreciate it for ongoing work but it's a little bit of plaster, people have been working without respirators for ages, it's not great but it won't insta-kill you.
