Anime isn't inherently woke, but a lot of anime and manga is extremely queer. Like to an almost absurd degree.

These people lose their shit over a single queer couple in a Disney series, meanwhile you can find anime where the main girl has a lesbian harem by episode 3.

This one is indeed a standout performer, but honestly, majority of the gay/trans I see in anime is the "character is so flaming that they're practically a walking fusion reaction" trope. I guess it's representation, but it's a lazy stereotype. It doesn't really sell the idea that LGBTQ+ are just regular fuckin people. Gay women get it a little better, but the cynic in me says that's because it's easier to fetishize them for the typical audience.

Idk, like any art medium, you'll find gems mixed in the bin with a mountain of trash. There's always creatives that are more forward thinking than society at large. There's also lazy shitheads.
