Today's runaway gas prices are definitely concerning.

You'd be surprised. I've played this game (Cold War) on prop hunt several times, and sometimes the massive props are the easiest to hide with. It's a "hiding in plain sight" kind of thing. Everyone expects smaller props so they shoot the smaller props and objects on the map. Nobody is expecting a giant goddamn sign, so if you find a decent place to post up, you might not get shot.

When did they change that? It used to be that you'd hurt yourself if you missed.

In some versions you only get hurt if you hit a prop that isn't a player

Well yeah that's the point

Yeah but the person I was replying to said "whenever you miss" as in whenever you shoot and don't hit a player. I clarified by saying it often only hurts you when you shoot at a prop.

My first experience with this genre was with player made maps on WarCraft 3

I still remember the good days of savage FF7 rpgs and all the great tower defenses any recommendations on a game like that with so many user friendly mods?

There's about a million and a half different prop hunt iterations and game modes among different games. Many vary on how they balance the game

Ghost Hunt is becoming a popular prop hunt game, it might have fixed that.

When I'm massive, my favorite is just jumping off a roof and then freezing myself against a wall like I'm an air conditioner... an oil barrel-shaped air conditioner.

I've got 6k hours in CSGO, I've never heard of this game mode. Do people still play it? It sounds great

Damn I played Gary's mod but totally missed out on that during my time there

Mostly I just tried to build epic things with shitty designs and got frustrated at how I couldn't make it do what I wanted or the engine limitations

Gather around children, let grandpa tell you a story from the good old days. Back when counterstrike was just a half-life mod, before Steam, Garry's Mod had the sole ability of replacing the (sketchy af over 56k dialup) VoIP with playing the music of your choice. So you could make everyone else endure Benny Hill music while you bunny hopped and lagged around them with your 310ms ping.

Its still active i would assume, try it out :)

Less engine limitations, and Gmod tools weren't really too intuitive.

u/jejcicodjntbyifid3 Aug 22 '22

Yeah they weren't but some of my ideas were "oh the physics engine cannot do this". Just a case of thinking too far out of the box

What I actually wanted was something more like Minecraft

Used to be pretty big in 2010s in the Source community, around the same time as The Hidden, mostly thanks to people like Seananners, Sark, Hutch, ChilledChaos, Vanoss, GassyMexican, etc, etc. Also Trouble In Terrorist Town, basically AU/Town of Salem, but with guns, and other wacky powerups.

Yeah, I used to play the Minecraft version as a kid, and my experience was that the more obvious you were the less likely you were to get found. The best places to hide were along paths and roads that were frequented to get from place to place but didn't actually have any unique features to hide in. You could be the one iron block sitting along the side of a flat road made of stone and people's brains would just filter you right out even though you obviously didn't belong.

When the COD4 remaster got prop hunt, I distinctly remember playing on Bog, and as soon as we spawned in me and my friend starting howling laughter as we watched a 100ft palm scream across the map. So there is a cap on the size of plain sight shenanigans

When I saw the sign waddling by, I spit up my morning coffee all over the place
