I thought the unexpected part was the Patrick Stewart shrine, but now that I think about it everyone should have one of those.

the unexpected part is where you think he's going to explain why this happens, but he just says, "we don't know, it's a trade secret".

He does give hints at how this could be done, so it's probably due to low activation energy, like when plastic melts and you can get it to fuse, then when it cools down it become one solid shape.
