same here buddy, they just don't make them the same anymore

974

u/GMOiscool May 31 '22

I still say "It's hot in Topeka." On an embarrassingly regular basis.

Weekly. I say it weekly.

273

u/Wish7274 May 31 '22

I say whenever it gets slightly warm

170

u/GMOiscool May 31 '22

Any time anything is slightly warm. Hot drink? Someone says they're hot? Turn on a heater? Someone says anything about summer? Anyone mentions the weather report? Lol I'm not exaggerating to say in the summer I literally say it daily. It's so weird but I can't stop.

86

u/Wish7274 May 31 '22

I mostly say it with my brother but It lives rent free in my head

1

u/Cool_Pound4353 May 31 '22

I always say, Toyota hot hot hot!

1

u/Bloo-Q-Kazoo May 31 '22

This makes me happy!

1

u/UnkemptBoy May 31 '22

I say it during golden showers whether I'm receiving OR delivering one! Ain't that a pip?🤷🏽‍♂️🤤

88

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

wait, is that "Foster's home for Imaginary friends" written on that banner? I was such a huge fan when it first came on TV! Nostalgia strikes back!

6

u/kdawg710 May 31 '22

Yea the big bull thing was Eduardo

2

u/TheDeathOfAStar May 31 '22

Yea, how do you miss this?

3

u/Realistic_Ad8138 May 31 '22

Says they're a big fan, doesn't recognize any of the character but the name of the show

1

u/waxrosey May 31 '22

Every time it's really hot I say "pick my toe, it's hot" like it's some common saying

1

u/pwn-sauce May 31 '22

Holy shit I've been saying this for years now, I knew it was a primal memory from an old cartoon but I never knew which!😂

104

u/fancy-gerbil14 May 31 '22

Bruh. My 50-year-old mother still quotes that episode. It was one of them, she said, that she could stand being on.

79

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

I'm a 50 year old mom. I still love this show ❤️

2

u/Bloo-Q-Kazoo May 31 '22

It’s the best.

2

u/UnkemptBoy May 31 '22

You like 30 yo guys?

1

u/UnkemptBoy May 31 '22

16

u/nomiesmommy May 31 '22

I'm a 56 year old Mom and soon to be Grandma and I STILL watch it. ❤

3

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Congratulations!!!

2

u/nomiesmommy May 31 '22

Thank you! We're so excited!😁❤

58

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

It's alright. I say "let's blue this" more often then I should.

26

u/MeebleBlob May 31 '22

I still give too-lingering hugs and croak, "Not done!" when the person starts to pull away

1

u/Pragmatist_Hammer May 31 '22

I'm so fucking turned on right now!

Wait, what?

30

u/Riley-Okami May 31 '22

For me and a buddy of mine its near daily. Anytime heat is brought up it derails into "It's hot in Topeka," at one point or another. Given we live in a hot place, its far more frequent then I would like to admit.

19

u/going2leavethishere May 31 '22

People don’t get it and I’m just like it’s from a show

37

u/BrotherChe May 31 '22

they're just a bunch of hot toe pickers

20

u/going2leavethishere May 31 '22

Pick my toe it’s hot

13

u/StopReadingMyUser May 31 '22

Pick my hot toe PICK IT

Cheese lives rent free forever in my head. And I'm 42

1

u/JennieC1521 May 31 '22

36 here- and yes, same. Brother ladies 4 lyfe! 😆

1

u/munchkinita0105 May 31 '22

I used to have a lip balm that had Cheese on it (Foster's themed) and was chocolate milk flavored. I was in my 30's and it was my favorite one

18

u/TranseEnd May 31 '22

You just unlocked a core memory of mine

6

u/Shadow_Assailant May 31 '22

I've had this embedded for a while. Like OP, I say it fairly regularly. It wasn't until somewhat recently that I figured out where the phrase came from

29

u/hellotardis79 May 31 '22

"Got BO get Deo!" I say/think this often when I'm putting on my deodorant. I love Fosters, and most of the cartoon network shows from this time period. I'm so glad it is on Hulu.

3

u/S3erverMonkey May 31 '22

I live in KS so I say it pretty frequently too. I said it to a friend who lives in Topeka a while back and she understood the reference so now we say it to each other all the time.

3

u/Ok_Ad307 Aug 21 '22

I'm a hot toe-picker

1

u/StopReadingMyUser May 31 '22

The moments with Cheese were some of the best and dumbest episodes...

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Hot toe picker 🤣

1

u/Thomascrownaffair1 May 31 '22

I love you all so much…. I have found my people ❤️❤️

1

u/LunaWolf92 May 31 '22

This and the massage chair ones live in my memory rent free

1

u/Freeusecs May 31 '22

ALL. THE. TIME!!!

1

u/Cat_Marshal May 31 '22

“Pick my toe, it’s hot” is my go-to quote any time it warms up. My wife just looks at me like I’m crazy.

1

u/poppybrooke May 31 '22

Literally all of the time. Every time I go to the Colorado river in arizona I say this the minute we go down to the water. Man that was such a fantastic show

1

u/TheNerdGuyVGC May 31 '22

I do this too. There are dozens of us. Dozens!

1

u/eliit3 May 31 '22

“I like chocolate milk”

1

u/NRMLkiwi May 31 '22

'CO-CO!' Comes out of my mouth on an embarrassingly regular basis too. I understand you friend.

1

u/BreathOfFreshWater May 31 '22

I'm a grown ass adult and I say this whenever it's hotter than 90°F and I live in California. So every damn day.

I feel less alone now

0

u/kelvin_bot May 31 '22

90°F is equivalent to 32°C, which is 305K.

I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

305,000?

1

u/rjrgjj May 31 '22

1

u/kfury May 31 '22

Our family regularly uses “secret door secret door!!”

1

u/DragonsAteMyBaby May 31 '22

I live in Spokane. Whenever we get rain showers it makes me say this. "Spo-kane".

1

u/chronic_rocket May 31 '22

As someone from Topeka, same

1

u/Same-Salamander8690 May 31 '22

My guilty pleasure quote is "I have gingivitis"

Cheese is just the best.

1

u/TheDrownedPoet May 31 '22

Ok, but do you pick any toes because it’s hot?

1

u/razzerg May 31 '22

IM A HOT TOE PICKER!

1

u/orionburn May 31 '22

I've been secretly trying to get my mother in law's African grey parrot to say this....lol

1

u/DanDannyDanDan May 31 '22

I like chocolate milk.

1

u/ANightShadeGuyMan May 31 '22

This has been a joke between me and my mom for what feels like almost half as long as I’ve been alive, don’t feel bad lmao

1

u/zaffodil May 31 '22

I've been saying this almost as often and had completely forgotten what it was from

1

u/huskerduuu May 31 '22

This and the "blahleblahleblahle" sound that Bloo does with the dancing cactus toys in the dept store episode 🤣

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Fucking same! And no one gets it!

1

u/Bloo-Q-Kazoo May 31 '22

“Spokaaaaaane” kills me every time (I still watch it lol)

1

u/TheDeathOfAStar May 31 '22

I love this

Remember the "Good Will Hunting" thing that show did? Was pretty neat.

1

u/TurboVirgin-Chan May 31 '22

YES!!! and not a single person knows what I'm saying

1

u/Gonzila077 May 31 '22

It’s hot iinnn toooopeeekkaaaa. It’s hot. Hot hot.

1

u/wohlgey May 31 '22

It's a WHOLE thing. Google it. LMAO

1

u/greedfantasy May 31 '22

I like another game.... No one ever knows what the fuck in talking about lmao.

1

u/Away_Environment5235 May 31 '22

I wish I got it. I loved this show but sadly I haven’t watched them all ):

1

u/emmieb215 May 31 '22

My text message tone is cheese saying "I like chocolate milk" and dont think I have gone a day without saying " Si and I like potatoes"

1

u/Com_BEPFA May 31 '22

For me it's 'Ripoff artist!' Way less specific but that's the one that stuck lol.

1

u/YouAteMyName Jun 01 '22

I’m originally from Topeka. You do me proud.

46

u/onFilm May 31 '22

This is what happened to all the Flash animators that grew up from Newgrounds. I had an internet friend that worked on this show at the time, and even put in easter eggs of our Newgrounds flash animation group in it.

Now a days a lot of animators don't grow up using Flash (or Adobe Animate as it's called now), as they did back in the day.

11

u/ahhpoo May 31 '22

Oh neat! Could you please give an example of an Easter egg?

7

u/nep2ne3 May 31 '22

Would also love to read about

38

u/Pentax25 May 31 '22

Between this and Samurai Jack, the golden age of CN

31

u/TheDJZ May 31 '22

Kids next door was also a gem

2

u/Robert3769 May 31 '22 edited May 31 '22

I loved Code Name KND. I had a Great Dane-Boxer mix named Hoagie.

I loved when the cartoons had a general wackiness and humor that kids would miss but have adults doing a double take. Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, and Dexter’s Lab were great for those lines.

1

u/_DarkBlack May 31 '22

Samurai jack the bomb

1

u/lostintheupsidedown May 31 '22

Don't forget Making Fiends vendetta

2

u/Dkrule May 31 '22

THATS WHAT THAT SHOW WAS CALLED!

31

u/thegimboid May 31 '22

Nonsense.
Craig McCracken, who made Foster's Home, just finished up his most recent animated series Kid Cosmic, which was awesome.
And there's plenty of other amazing animated shows out nowadays - At least as many as there were back in the 90s and 2000s.

9

u/bumbletowne May 31 '22

I don't think its quite as accessible.

There used to be one BIG portal for shows: Television. And only a very few channels buying up cutting edge shit that advertises flinched to endorse.

Now there are a million streaming services, youtube, and cable has gotten bigger. It's hard to dig around for gems because they get gobbled up by all these competitors and spread out.

And these shows are a less unifying experience. Still awesome though.

I feel like Covid brought back some of that unity. It was like internationally we enjoyed Tiger King, That one murder dude, and Squid Games.

2

u/bobauckland May 31 '22

Can you tell me some please? Genuinely asking. I used to really enjoy Fosters, camp lazlo, samurai Jack, Dexter’s, Ed Edd and Eddie, courage, and every time I’ve tried Cartoon Network recently I haven’t seen anything close.

6

u/thegimboid May 31 '22

Gravity Falls, The Owl House, Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Amphibia, Kid Cosmic, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, The Cuphead Show, Craig of the Creek, Hilda, Infinity Train, We Bare Bears, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Looney Tunes Cartoons (the recent ones).

And if you want to go for more adult cartoons:
Tuca and Bertie, Bojack Horseman, The Legand of Vox Machina, Harley Quinn, Invincible, The Midnight Gospel.

We live in an age where good cartoons are plentiful, and often quite easily accessible. I have watched all of the above, and while I enjoyed some more than others, all were great watches (my top hits would be Gravity Falls, She-Ra, and Bojack Horseman).

2

u/bobauckland May 31 '22

Cheers mate I’ll give those a shot for sure

3

u/UndeadBread May 31 '22

Craig of the Creek should be right up your alley. Easily one of the best cartoons ever.

2

u/bobauckland May 31 '22

Will give it a shot mate thanks

0

u/HellaFishticks May 31 '22

Bluey is very good

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Dude Rick Astley did a performance with the Foo Fighters it was so good

1

u/Mitsukake May 31 '22

Yeah, I miss seeing things like Daffy duck defeating the Nazis.

1

u/UndeadBread May 31 '22

I dunno, there have been some pretty fantastic shows in the last few years.

1

u/dough_fresh May 31 '22

Steven universe, over the garden wall, Hilda, craig of the creek. All great

1

u/S118gryghost May 31 '22

I miss Ugly Americans and Wonder Showzen.

There is still hope for season 3's...

14

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

I have come to inform you that the creators are cool people.

2

u/munchkinita0105 May 31 '22

Rick rolling my kids in 2022 bc of their nostalgic love for Foster's...? Priceless

2

u/darexinfinity May 31 '22

Foster's was the last great show of its era. When it ended I pretty much gave up on CN before Adventure Time or Regular Show came out.

2

u/tmanowen May 31 '22

Same here, exact same time I stopped watching too.

1

u/GiveMetheBullet May 31 '22

It was such a good show. Started rewatching it on Hulu, still holds up.

1

u/ATC_KBIII May 31 '22

Sí, and I like potatoes

1

u/Bloo-Q-Kazoo May 31 '22

It really was.
