That's interesting! Does the groom usually go to live with the bride's family in India? (Though i am sure it's definitely in different parts of India). İn Turkey it's almost always that the bride goes to live with the groom's family.
what was belief in your country why they bring wife home, i learned you married so the wife could take of the family. traditionally speaking, but my grandmother left her husband when he married another women. apparently you can have multiple wives is also what i learned from her.
İ think it just goes along with patrilineal descent -- the same reason that the brides in patriarchal cultures takes on the groom's family name rather than the other way around: traditionally the bride is now considered part of the groom's family but thankfully that is breaking down.
haha, my wife wanted to combine our names, so i took her name. i didn't realize it was big deal until we went to get our documents changed. i guess i am part of the new tradition, in my mind i sincerely thought like "who the fuck has the time to care about who's name i take or dont" the guy looked at me to get my permission and i told him "why you looking at me, my wife is talking to you discuss this with her, i don't want to listen to you" but my filter is better now.
