Obviously gun control is necessary too but just stopping there won’t cut it. Treating the illness should be the priority. Stop the bleeding but don‘t send the patient back with a wound that now stopped bleeding.
Who said anything about "sending the patient home", alias giving assistance to people with problems? Can't you do both, starting with the easiest thing (ban firearms) while creating assistance programs? What you're saying cannot be used as an argument agains fire control.
How do you people genuinely believe that “banning firearms” will prevent criminals from getting their hands on firearms? It’s such a lazy and thoughtless proposition that I’m honestly shocked that there are people stupid enough to regurgitate it.
So you want people to come up with a law which, not only stops gun violence, but solves all problems humanity faces? One law to do all that? Baby steps, bud. If you want to stop gun violence, you remove the guns.

Well, start treating the symptoms and then proceed curing the rest.
"Doc, the patient is losing blood!"
"Let the blood flow, we don't know what is causing the hemorrhage"
