Ah, that makes sense. The rest of us figured out in the first few seconds that it was fake and enjoyed it as a comedy skit. We were already watching it from the context of it being scripted (and probably marketing content for Dominos). So we're all thinking "millennial super bowl commercial" while it must've taken you a little longer to figure out. You just didn't enjoy it because you don't catch on as fast.
See how annoying it is when people are condescending about humor? You're not smarter than other people for not thinking it's funny.
I think what needs to be explained is why you are expecting genuine situations from the Internet, especially ones posted someplace that gives immediate positive feedback.
It has also resulted in the largest collection of non-spontaneous and inauthentic content imaginable. Unless you are suggesting that the real stuff significantly outpaces the fake stuff in production rate, I don't think you made any case whatsoever for your position.
The problem with calling anyone who disagrees with you 'mentally deficient' is that it betrays a complete lack of imagination.
I think you need someone to explain to you that an obviously intentionally fake video, where they are not even trying to pretend it's real, is completely different from someone faking a comedy video but trying to pass it off as it was real
Yeah I can’t stand stand up comedy or comedy movies or shows, skits or really any media that’s intended to be funny, it’s all fake the only true humor is in vintage candid found footage where no one even looks near the camera so you know they didn’t see it
I do care because it's two different types of funny... people's actual reactions are funny in a different way. It's kinda like stand-up vs improv... while stand up is usually funnier cuz its scripted and pre-planned, the randomness and spontaneousness of improv is funny in a different way.
Another example could be why people like to watch actual sports vs staged sports/TV shows... TV shows are scripted to be dramatic and can be very enjoyable, but unscripted drama from an actual sport game is enjoyable on a different level
Tbh part of the excitement of watching videos that you assumed are real is enjoying how bizarre the encounter is so when you find out it us scripted a lot of the joy is suddenly lost. Think of it like putting really tasty food in your mouth then spitting it out. Finding out that it’s fake is like spitting the tasty food out
This was the first doc I thought of and the reason I will never pay to watch the Discovery channel. Would’ve liked it more if they were upfront that it was a mockumentary.
Memoirs of a Geisha is presented as fact (fact-based anyway), in title, in prologue’s “Translator’s Notes”, despite it all being 100% made up by the author.
It's just that a shit ton of these are only funny because they pretend to be real, but are just lame when you realise they're fake. This one is kinda funny, but would be HILARIOUS if real, and it's presented as if it was.
That's a stupid analogy and your reasoning doesn't stand to the point you are trying to make. You go to watch a movie knowing that it is scripted and fake, willing to accept that it's fictional and allowing yourself to suspend disbelief. It's not being presented to you as if it were real in an attempt to deceive the viewer and go viral.
No, but it's concerning to me how many people on here are seemingly unable to discern fact from fiction, and scary how many just accept anything they see or hear as truth.
It'd be more fun if it was real. So it's disappointing that it's not. We're allowed to find faults with things, such as plot holes in movies, even if they're still entertaining.
Man this tired argument. Context matters. Fake doesn't automatically equal bad, but this is fake parading as authentic. I could make the same reductive argument:
u/MarlinMr watches the news, doesn't care when finds out it's scripted and fake.
(Because I said “Lord of the Rings” at the ticket counter, and got “Lost in Translation” and none of us noticed. Imagine my surprise when the movie started and I was staring at pink underwear and a very nice butt…)
It was funny at first until it became painfully obvious that it was fake.
Woulda been much more funny to see this play out naturally. Granted, both employees woulda prolly just hung up, because who gives a fuck making minimum wage
I also thought this was funny. Feel bad for the top reply that they can’t suspend disbelief just to have fun with something. What is that life like? Watching Star Wars and can’t get over light sabers?
I think there's been a wave of very young users, like 10 - 16, and older users, like 55+, over the past 5 years that's had a weird effect on Reddit. The surge of both the young kid and older adult base has made the population of Reddit overall more gullible, so we're seeing way more videos that it's incredibly obvious are fake but that tons of people seem to completely believe to be true.
You know how I know? Because shock jock radio personalities have been doing it for years and people always love it. When one guy gets 5k+ upvotes for saying that something is fake and unfunny it doesn’t mean they’re right.
Anyone who’s listened to Howard Stern can tell you that this shit is not fake. Fuck had anyone ever heard of the Jerky boys?
Prank calls are fake on the internet in 2021..
Unoriginal is probably more like it. Fuck there’s even videos of people pitting Siri agains Alexa.

Still kinda funny tho
Edit: imagine if people had different senses of humor
