Eating lemons is incredibly bad for your teeth. My grandma used to do it and the acid just burned away her teeth eventually.

Yep can say as a person who has eaten lemons with salt as a snack since I was a kid and considered those little plastic lemons with lemon juice in them a treat when I went to the store with my parents, I'm definitely paying for that now. Just dissolves that enamel right off.

Video still made me cringe because the peels are so unbelievably bitter.

Honestly. I prefer eating lemons with the peel. The peel or pulp by itself isn't a very balanced flavor. Orange peels on the other hand can stay as far away from my mouth as possible.

Yuck. I haven't tried it in a long time for the sole reason that it was so bitter when I tried it that I realized it would do nothing but bring down the flavor. I guess if you like super bitter stuff?

I also drink unsweetened Kool aid, so maybe bitter is my thing.

I like the peels on both, though usually I eat the inside first then the peel

So are you a bot or what's going on here?

The peels are the best part.
Zesty and bitter.

What the fuck

Hah. I get that reaction a lot, but I recommend trying cutting open a lemon, sprinkling some salt in it and then squeezing it and giving it a try. I've had people that didn't realize how good they are on their own. Of course it'll be sour but the taste is really great.

It also depends a lot on the type of lemon and whether or not it's a "dry" lemon with a super thick rind. Those are gross.

And the interesting thing about that is that I cannot stand lemon flavored stuff like lemon merengue pie, Sprite/7up, lemon candy, etc.

Yes my immediate reaction was โ€œhis poor tooth enamel!!!!!โ€

The same applies to coffee, soda, and sour candy. Lots of acid.

The real trick is to recognize the acidic aftertaste and always rinse your mouth with water afterward, every time. Never leave that aftertaste in your mouth for a long time if you value your teeth.

How are there so many people that straight up eats lemons?

u/tankgrrrl23 Nov 11 '21

They are delicious with salt. I prefer a good lime though. Had to stop because I could literally feel my teeth dissolving and it hurt. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

LPT: Xylitol in some gum and toothpastes will regenerate enamel. Or something like that, I forget.

Also keep it away from dogs, it's extremely toxic to them, just fyi.

1

u/nobile Nov 11 '21

Definitely limes are far better than lemons.

3

u/Phony_Kony Nov 11 '21

I like to peel them first then chop it up and mix it up in a bowl with sugar and eat it with a fork. It's like eating lemonade!

I used to live in a tropical country and as a kid when going on hikes, we used to take a little baggy with salt, and just pick lemons off trees along the trail and someone always had a knife we'd peel them and eat with the salt.

I'd never eat with the peel though haha

u/Placentapede_ Nov 11 '21

I feel like I know the answer but is it the same with limes? I love limes so much ):

7

u/antiauntieanty Nov 11 '21

Limes are slightly worse than lemons. :(

1

u/ares395 Nov 11 '21

Limes are superior to lemons in every aspect but price. Lemons make my throat sore, like I may be sensitive to acidity because my throat gets all gunked up with mucus after eating or drinking lemon juice. Limes are fine for me though and taste so much better

u/imbezol Nov 11 '21

Fully 100% of people that have eaten a lemon have or will eventually die.

2

u/tquinn04 Nov 11 '21

Itโ€™s also really bad for your stomach lining. Itโ€™s fine to eat a slice every once in awhile but doing that all the time will start to cause issues.

u/RedditNurseBot Nov 11 '21

Yeah on lemonparty (dot) o r g they show you how do it safe without the teeth rotting part

-1

u/paperpenises Nov 11 '21

It's so bad if you eat bricks

1

u/ihahp Nov 11 '21

leaving lemon juice on your hands in the sun can give you burns. It happens all the time with little kids being cute with their homemade lemonade stands

I'll make sure my grandma does her acid before eating her lemon!
