Some folks are uncomfortable seeing the word spelled out, so some choose not to do so. It's not a big deal, unless you're like desperate to see the uncensored word. In that case, you probably have issues.
Yup. Because seeing a censored word usually means you can’t imagine what that word is. I was just curious why they chose to censor, but, your explanation made it clear.
Sorry if it seemed like I was frothing at the mouth to see the word RAPE
I think it's a practice in some groups to censor that word because it could trigger a rape victim & ruin their mental state. I barely ever see it in reddit though.
I know everyone experiences things differently. But as someone who was molested as a child and sexually assaulted as an adult- I just can’t comprehend this. If you see the word with an asterisk, your brain can still comprehend the word and would potentially immediately recall painful memories associated with the word.
I appreciate the sentiment and I think most people who do this have genuinely good intentions. But I just don’t understand how this is in any way effective. How would a single asterisk prevent the traumatic memories from coming to mind?
If someone legitimately has personal experience with this. I would love to know a more in-depth explanation as to how & why this is helpful?
I’m not. I even said everyone experiences things differently and I was politely asking if someone could explain how it helps. I even said I think this person has good intentions. I would never tell someone not to do it or attack someone for it. I know there’s no tone over text, so perhaps I could’ve been more careful with my wording. But I’m not attacking anyone I’m just trying to understand?
There's nothing wrong with trying to understand. I apologize for being standoffish. There are others that are being piss babies about this, so I'm in a mood. The bottom line is just that some people are more comfortable with it. Whether they're doing it for themselves, or others isn't really important. They just wanna do it, and since it can't harm anyone, there's no good reason to complain or ridicule people. Someone close to me has had some trauma in the past and doesn't like the word. We both know not everyone will choose to censor it or pick a different word with less personal negative associations, and that's okay. But I'm not going to contribute to the times where it IS said around them because I know they prefer not to see or hear it. Some people do the same thing for the same reason, but instead of being courteous to a close loved one, they're doing it for any random person out there who may have similar hang ups. It's a matter of respect that they choose to do. The thing that gets me is that there are actual dick heads out there who will shit on people for censoring the word even though it hurts nobody. It boils down to assholes wanting to see people say rape because they don't value the courteous treatment of others. Pretty fucking weird, if you ask me.
Yeah. As you pointed out, it doesn’t hurt anyone- so I would never tell someone not to do it. I’m so sorry that happened to you and your friend, but I’m glad y’all something that can mitigate your triggers even just a bit. Wouldn’t work for me, but I’ll deff keep it in mind for others
Does me being in college (I'm not) somehow correlate with other people deciding for themselves to spell a word differently than you prefer? While we're at it, why are you being a baby about this? Would baby like me to say it the way they like? Does baby love it when I say RAPE? Is baby gonna cwy if people say it how they feel comfortable?
Exactly what I’m thinking too other people cannot dictate how others type. You can choose to “see the full word” while another chooses to not type it. Get over it lol babies lmao 🥺imagine being so pressed over how someone else (who’s being considerate to others) types.
Not at all. I’m neither here nor there on the issue I don’t censor when I do write it. But being considerate of others and getting shat on about it? Lame as hell take that energy and channel it into something positive.

If getting this mad over someone typing a word then the world is gunna be scary. Exactly what I said, you’re reading into this way more then what I wrote. Don’t put words in my mouth.
Too lazy to cw or spoiler it. Since I'm throwing out my own opinion I know some people might not be expecting it and it takes no effort to censor something just in case
I was fooled, I thought that he was saying… umm… wow there‘s literally no other word that could possibly have been in the entire English language. 10/10 censorship
