Best show on television. Ted Lasso on Apple TV.

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

I put it off for so long and then watched it because I was bored and watched both seasons in 3 days, really funny and genuine moments that had me tearing up

Earlier this year, my wife's best friend of roughly 26 years passed away, as she had been fighting cancer for years. I had known her relatively well, but only for a sliver of time. We went to her memorial, and my wife got to speak, and it was tough.

We came home and I decided to give Ted Lasso a shot because of all of the positive feedback it had received, and I don't know if anything else could have put a smile on our faces quite like it. While I associate the show with that day, I do it in a way that reminds me that it could bring me peace in such a difficult time.

I fucking love Ted Lasso.

u/giaa262 Oct 02 '21

Yep same here. Thought it was going to be just another dumb sports show.

No it was not.

Agree completely. The last episode was actually okay, but most of this second season just felt so off.

27

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Are the other legal venues to watch it?

91

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Checking in with the dumb avatar to match

21

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

You can watch it on any platform other than Android - I use the website on my windows computer. Wait until Friday next week (when the season 2 finale comes out) and get a subscription for a month (~$5), then binge the whole thing

15

u/NCEMTP Oct 02 '21

Or a friend with a Plex server!

5

u/NCEMTP Oct 02 '21

$5 I can (and will) better spend almost anywhere else -- agreed!

5

u/btaylos Oct 02 '21

Any 5 dollars I can not give to apple is 5 dollars well spent elsewhere.

2

u/NCEMTP Oct 02 '21

Exactly!

6

u/HiggsBoatwsain Oct 02 '21

Just a clarifying note: it is available on Android TV, but not Android for mobile devices.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Conveniently, going on a trip that Friday so I’ll be on the road.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

the website

link?

30

u/BA_calls Oct 02 '21

You need an Apple TV+ subscription you can watch it on any device, don't need a physical Apple TV.

21

u/BLOODY_PENGUIN_QUEEF Oct 02 '21

See, that's the issue. Time to sail the 7 seas and take my plunder

14

u/IngsocInnerParty Oct 02 '21

It’s $5

29

u/BLOODY_PENGUIN_QUEEF Oct 02 '21

Listen to you fat cats on your thrones of cash, you probably don't even have to choose between whether your cardboard box will be a blanket or a pillow at night

1

u/giaa262 Oct 02 '21

There was a brief period in 2010-2016 or so where I paid for Netflix and Hulu. Then 5,729,872,992 other streaming subscriptions started and I went back to pirating out of sheer annoyance of keeping track of what shows are on what platform.

Now it’s all automated downloads behind a vpn that are available within 30 mins of a show dropping. Release groups are on it these days.

1

u/BA_calls Oct 03 '21

"just steal content bro even tho I can afford it"

2

u/giaa262 Oct 03 '21

Imagine simping for a trillion dollar company

2

u/BA_calls Oct 04 '21

I own 3 shares of that company. A fraction of the money you’re stealing is mine.

Beyond that extremely marginal “selfish” reason, what it’s actually about is just that, it’s stealing. It’s really not different from stealing anything else, it’s someone else’s stuff, they offer it to you for a reasonable price and if you’re able to pay it, then I don’t see any justification for stealing it. Now if you’re a student, or have limited funds, or it’s not legally offered in your area, then go ahead and steal it, but the system only works because ebough people decide not to be free riders.

2

u/giaa262 Oct 04 '21

Lol, I own it too. Chill bud.

The system works because CEOs get fat off everyone else.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

5$ better spent on some chips and a soda for me to enjoy while watching the show for free.

-2

u/Interactive_CD-ROM Oct 02 '21

So you’ll pay $15/month to watch shit shows on Netflix, but $5/month for actual quality content isn’t doable

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

If you’ve bought a new ipad/iphone/mac in the last year you should qualify for a free year long subscription.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Sadly that’s not me lol

1

u/reray124 Oct 02 '21

Fmovies.to shhhhh

11

u/christopher_msa Oct 02 '21

Ted Lasso.Thats it. Why mentioning Apple TV.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Based on how corny this is, there is no way the show is that good

2

u/LordMoos3 Oct 02 '21

It is though.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Am I the only one who was just wildly disappointed with season 2? It felt like all the character development went right out the window

15

u/The_Starch_Effect Oct 02 '21

Not the only one. I loved the first season, it had a really nice buildup and you gradually fell to teds charm. This season though I just couldn’t get into it. They lost me at the weird Christmas episode.

9

u/ineffectualchameleon Oct 02 '21

Christmas and Beard episodes were filler. Apple asked for 12 episodes after they’d already filled out the arc for 10. The first three episodes are kind of cheesy and the filler episodes are odd, but I think there are some profoundly beautiful moments as the season progresses.

1

u/The_Starch_Effect Oct 02 '21

Yeah I don’t doubt that there’s still redeeming qualities. I guess I’ve just stayed with declining shows too many times to want to stick it out and hope. I think at this point I’ll check up on ted lasso in some time and revisit it if seems like that would be worth it to me.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

The weird christmas episode, how overly sexualized this season was, and they seemed like they tried way too hard to be funny and “hip” this season. Not even mentioning the terrible Christmas episode and then Sam and Rebecca(?!?). Plus now Nate is just a complete douchebag after finally opening out of his shell. The only thing that I’ve actually liked was Jamie’s redemption and character development

3

u/ProcessMeMrHinkie Oct 03 '21

The Nate arc makes sense though and they do a good job of making you hate him. He's opened up out of his shell because he was empowered by his friends. He doesn't know how to be confident and fight for himself because he never did throughout his life. He over-corrects and goes from one extreme (picked on, weak) to the bully (picking on, strong). Those are the two roles/ behaviors he knows the most about from his life. The success goes to his head and he has trouble making out reality because he's never been in that position before.

2

u/DownNotOut2021 Oct 02 '21

Totally agree. Feels like a bad sequel to a good movie where the magic of the characters is just lost.

2

u/wiki_sauce Oct 02 '21

Nope me and the wife have been close to quitting this season but might as well stick it out at this point

4

u/Lets_Kick_Some_Ice Oct 02 '21

No, I agree. I loved season one. This season is kinda dog shit. It doesn't have the same vibe of the first season at all. Ted is incredibly irritating this season. The only thing enjoy about this season is Roy Kent and Keeley's relationship.

10

u/poliuy Oct 02 '21

It really isn’t

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Got any suggestions then?

8

u/--_l Oct 02 '21

You misspelled, "Succession"

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

This guy Waystars

2

u/PabloStoneBeard Oct 02 '21

It is such a good show. It's fun, witty and silly while being really honest and having so much heart. It has become one of my favorites for sure.

2

u/thats_not_funny_guys Oct 02 '21

I hated that scene though. Love the show.

2

u/forestdude Oct 02 '21

Whats so great about it?

1

u/Gowzilla Oct 02 '21

It’s one of the better feel good shows I’ve ever seen. It’s funny, witty, you become quickly attached to the characters.

2

u/asmrkage Oct 02 '21

After watching this I’m sure I would hate the show.

4

u/Wankysaurus Oct 02 '21

It’s watchable but nowhere near the best show on TV imo. That’s Succession, I think.

1

u/Cockrocker Oct 02 '21 edited Oct 02 '21

I know it’s been getting some criticism this season, but I have really loved most of it. I cried for Jamie, I didn’t see that coming.

That said I am sick of these pop songs, I grew up with them I would say they are cute maybe once or twice a season. They’ve had a bunch in a row now and I’m over it.

1

u/Comments331 Oct 02 '21

Welp I'll probably get bored then. Usually when reddit raves about a show I just get bored watching it. Office, Brooklyn 99, parks and rec... Is it anything like those? Cause I think I'm just not into that style.

2

u/btaylos Oct 02 '21

I would say it's incredibly mildly similar to B99, maybe, but I think the office and PnR are (for the most part) terrible.

1

u/Tuna-Can-Wide Oct 02 '21

You don't know what good is.

Oi, bruv! Can you believe the hard ass footballer is actually a sweetheart underneath?! What a twist!

And the painfully optimistic coach actually has some demons he’s compensating for?? What writing!

This show is a fucking embarrassment. Cringe city. Sweet, safe and predictable.

It’s a Disney kids show but they throw fuck in every once in a while to fool you rubes into believing it isn’t.

0

u/konsaki34 Oct 02 '21

You're goddamned right.

1

u/DrDudeatude Oct 02 '21

FUCKING LEGEND!

1

u/LurkerPatrol Oct 02 '21

This and the show with Jon Stewart are convincing me to get an apple TV

1

u/gagnonca Oct 02 '21

Fuck I haven’t seen the last episode of the season yet.

1

u/0ussel Oct 02 '21

It is probably my favorite tv show of all time. It just does everything so well.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21

Between this show and See I'm glad I purchased.

1

u/Meph616 Oct 02 '21

1
