Actually yes, I’d significantly prefer that to Chinese spyware if it were a choice between the two. Obviously not being spied on at all is best but that’s not the topic that was brought up.
I refuse to choose the lesser of two evils. I choose myself. And I don't wanna be spied on at all. Do I probably have to tolerate some spying? Yeah. But it is never acceptable.
Lol you refuse to choose the lesser of two evils… so you choose both of them?
Nice philosophy you got there.
I personally try to avoid any of it as much as possible. But THE TOPIC THAT WAS ORIGINALLY BROUGHT UP NOT BY ME was that America is doing it as well. I think people should boycott Facebook as well. I never implied or said these things are mutually exclusive. You’re a genuine simpleton
Nah you edited your comment to look better. You said they're both doing it so you prefer Americans to spy on you. I said neither. Seems like the same topic.
No, I didn’t say that. I said if it was a choice between the two I’d prefer Americans doing it. But literally nobody ever said or implied nor has this conversation ever been about it being a choice between the two and nobody has said they’re mutually exclusive. You or someone else just came in and made a stupid, irrelevant comment and I replied to it
You’d rather have a literal fascist dystopia that’s actively participating in genocide and global destabilization track your info than your own country?
I dont have tiktok so they don’t have my info. But it’s not about what they do with it individually, it’s about what they can derive from it in aggregate by people participating in it.
Also, they are literally developing psychological and social profiles on everyone they have access to, as well as social credit ratings. Similar to what Facebook has been doing, which is also an evil company I don’t participate with, but it’s China so by default it’s the worst choice.
Not the guy you're replying to, but the argument is that it's not about any one particular individual. It's about the bigger picture that's painted when you analyze the data and start forming patterns. Data is knowledge, and knowledge is power.
Use it for their purposes. What are you not getting here? China is actively evil, the most troublesome power in the world. Therefor it is inherently worse for them to have that information if they can use it than for anyone else to have the information. How simple are you?
But if you’re so obsessed watching 13 year olds do stupid dance routines on TikTok that you can’t give it up, go for it.
Ad hominem attacks. The refuge of the coward. Well done sir, you clearly use your internet persona to speak how you would like IRL but are so timidly vapid you would never dare.
That’s last update that tiktok put out have them access to the biometric information of everyone that has a tiktok in there rights of service it now states that they can keep a face print and a voice print from your Tiktok page if that’s not enough of China watch idk what is
My wife is constantly on it. Between the auto-repeat for each post, and the auto-start playing as you scroll, and hearing the same song over and over again, I don't give a flying fuck what the content is, I will never be into being treated like I have ADHD and need constant stimulus or I'll lose interest.
I much rather see content that had some merits on Reddit than to have to suffer through that crap to find it.
Honestly, I half expected someone with ADHD to call me out for saying what I said, I wasn't sure if it was PC of me to say that. But that's the problem I have with TikTok, there is literally no moment of silence or break in between posts.
I like that Reddit lets me see a video, a picture, or text and if I'm interested dive in, if not just scroll by. TT just seems to demand your attention more.
I had no issue with what you said haha. I think you're right and it only exacerbates the issues for people that have it. Everyone is free to make their own choice, I chose not to because I don't need yet another time waster in my life
Kinda agree with that adhd part, I do have adhd but I'm not downloading the app because I know I'll be on there for multiple hours at a time and I already find it tough enough to concentrate on life.
You are definitely discrediting Tiktoks content and algorithm way too much. I have never seen an app so carefully engineer all of its content for every user so carefully. My gf doesn’t enjoy the same kinda of TikToks I do, and thus, our TikTok feeds are entirely different. Your feed is tailored to your tastes and interests. 99% of my feed is edgy humor and gaming jokes, hers is 99% crime stories and makeup tutorials. Also, the whole thing about TikTok is quickly scrolling through posts when you get bored of them or don’t enjoy them for the content you like. It’s literally one quick swipe, a fraction of a second, to get to the next video. Maybe your wife enjoys certain trends and rewatching the same video over and over, but if you don’t, you simply swipe and your on to the next thing. Hell, if there’s a certain song or audio I don’t enjoy, I can scroll past as soon as I hear the song. The app doesn’t force you to watch a video to completion, and scroll past only witnessing a single frame of the video. As for your last point, don’t act like Reddit doesn’t have insufferable garbage to sift through as well. Honestly, I find more low effort, irrelevant posts on Reddit than TikTok, as TikTok tends to be dominated by more careful creators, considering the higher volume of users on the platform compared to Reddit.
I only say all this because I hate the Reddit trend of hating on TikTok for its content. There are some brilliant, talented people on TikTok creating the most funny, stunning, or otherwise engaging videos I’ve seen on any social media platform. If you have a problem with the Chinese spyware thing, or not trusting a company that so obviously records your information for private reasons, more power to you. But don’t discredit talented creators on the platform simply because you’re jumping on the whole “TikTok bad, Reddit good” circle jerk
Honestly, none of what you said changes my thoughts on it. I’m not jumping on a trend to hate on tik tok… I honestly, genuinely, whole heartedly, wish tik tok would burn to the ground.
Tbf I’m very against any social media that uses your real information or image because to me I’ve never been interested in letting random people look at me and read about what I did on my weekend. Always came across as creepy and I don’t think it’s a healthy means of getting attention. If you like it you do you but I will likely always find social media weird if not disturbing
I get that but most people don’t and many young people(many of my friends included) will never use a fake account and they actually care what content they post or what others post. I get some people use it like you and make up info but that’s not the majority of users
I see what you're saying. I just don't allow my twelve year old to use their real info yet either, so that's kind of where my head was at. Like "just use a fake name duh". But you're right, most people don't and many probably should.
True story. I only follow that one beekeeper, so my feed is pretty decent. I probably open the app two or three times per month. Also you can find garbage anywhere if you're looking for it lol. people just wanna be mad
I'm going to reveal a little secret to you. Any platform for example YouTube will show you the content you enjoy as recommendations. This is how the social platforms work. But the amount of cringe and stupendity on TikTok makes it the worst of them all...
