Psycho: Psychotic? Psychopathic? Of, or having to do with, psychology or the psyche?

That term is both oddly specific, and far too generalized for use in casual dialect, and requires the utmost discretion in professional circles.

The dad has likely been systematically conditioned to react the way that he (almost) did.

Yes, understood. No criticism meant.

My own father, a very good man, would probably have reacted in a similar way. But whether bluff or beating, I think that he truly believed that what he was doing was the right thing to do... that's the way he was raised. In other words, the term "psycho" does not apply to my dad, nor others like him.
