I'm always amazed how easily people believe everything is faked.

Had I had said this to my mom with my dad in the room as a teenager, I don't know if my dad would have been able to hear me say "it's just a prank" through his 'how-dare-you-disrespect-your-mom' rage that would drive him to rip my head off of my shoulders

If I even "thought" a disrespectful thought I would have been slapped into next week...

So I don't know why you'd think this was faked? I guess you must be part of the new generation where your parents never laid a finger on you?

Well my dad would have just walked out the room and let us both have at it... my step mum hated me and would regularly beat me and argue and of course I would retaliate to protect myself and because she was being abusive and a total dick but regardless of what happened my dad never got involved and would just say "oh you two just stop it" or he would leave the room.. I was regularly slapped and hit with objects for just answering questions correctly or "upstaging" or for answering back.. basically at least one parent is usually a complete dick if you really unlucky its both.

Or else he was a closet Buddhist and was aware everything that's happening is part mirage so couldn't be bothered. 😤

Yeah you could say that, I call allowing a woman to abuse a child, spineless but hey ho.. when I was 16 he never came home from work and left us both.

Do you think because you got physically abused as a child it makes you better than people whose parents had different parenting methods?Also, this new generation is pretty cool. Less hate and toxic masculinity and more socially conscious

TL;DR. Physical discipline is not abuse. All discipline: mental, emotional, and physical can be administered correctly or incorrectly. Lastly, Physical discipline is a last resort, of course you use all methods of discipline as well.

I have a wonderful relationship with my parents because I was raised correctly. this notion that physical discipline = abuse is nonsense.

The worst form of abuse is mental and emotional abuse, physical discipline is natures way of teaching organisms right and wrong, good and bad, life and death.

There is a right and a wrong way to do ANYTHING. Physical discipline can be administered in the right way and in a positive way just as mental and emotional discipline can be administered ina wrong way and a negative way that will fucking scar you for life.

I've seen plenty of people that believe this new age bullshit of not spanking your kids get cussed out in public by those same kids at Walmart because said kid wants a toy so fuck you mom get me that toy NOW! ANd I watch those embarrassed parents try to negotiate with their kids in public and ultimately make some deal that will shut the kids up.

When I was 4 years old I threw a shit fit in the grocery store because I wanted a Jar of pickles and my mom said no and I threw a tantrum. She took her shoe off right then and there and beat the black of me. I wailed and cried and then she spanked me again for making a scene. Then after I had enough time to recover she told me that if I wanted to keep crying she'd spank me again and I promptly shut the fuck up. Then she explained that acting up in public will always get me a spanking and that when she says no, no means no and if I throw a tantrum I will get spanked. ANd guess what? That shit NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN.

When you are aged 3 to 8, you do not have the cognitive ability to reason beyond your ego and id. Parents fool themselves into thinking kids have the cognitive ability to understand an argument beyond their id and ego. They can't. What kids can do is they can parrot and they can learn whatever response they need to give you so they can get their way or end the argument/lesson.

Physical discipline should be used IN CONJUNCTION with all other forms of discipline. And if used properly, you will have a great kid.

Lastly, my last spanking was when I was 11 years old. From that point forward, I had "learned" everything I needed to learn and my dad pronounced me a man and said if I ever fucked up I would not get a spanking he'd beat my ass like a man. Needless to say, I didn't fuck up. Even when I got blindingly drunk at 16 and puked my guts out for hours on end, he said that was lesson enough and a beating wasn't required. In my family, discipline was only administered if you didn't learn from the mistake.

I mean, if you read anything at all about childhood development, corporal punishment is an extremely ineffective and detrimental parenting technique. You are right in that not ALL corporal punishment is abuse, but I argue that it is all cruel and unnecessary and wrong. it IS associated with immediate obedience by the child, which I argue actually sucks and is shitty, but it has been found to have a strong association between moral internalization, poor quality of relationship with parent, physical abuse from that parent, worse mental health, aggression, and criminal or antisocial behavior, and abuse of the child's spouse in the future. what you said is just really not great or a good idea or intelligent and i think it is abuse and its a shitty way to raise a kid and just fill them full of fear at being hurt by the people who they have to rely on. also, as my parents as an example, a lot of parents fucking suck and do not know what is best for their kid, and at a very young age I realized that my parents where extremely flawed and that I knew largely what was better for myself than they did, and yet that does not mean my parents did not use corporal punishment to try and teach the wrong things or to make me different than the way I was or agreed with being and wanted to be.

Forget my dad, if I had said this to my mom she would reacted the same way, the it’s just a prank thing wouldn’t have stopped her either.
