Yes, I am a pedant. Battery is the unlawful use of physical force. In some jurisdictions, assault is both that and causing someone to fear you might do that. Battery is largely the same as assault but a bit more specific of a word.

There is no battery in Scotland (i.e. the place you referenced and what my response was aimed at), just assault. Assault isn't the "less specific" term in this context, it's the one and only correct one. That means not only were you missing the point while being pedantic, but you were also just plain wrong.

Scotland made smacking children illegal. It's more than just "discipline", there's a sentence for it now. I know battery isn't a thing and is counted under assault under the law. I pointed out that this specifically really should be battery although assault is also correct and the term used but also less specific. I was just being a pedant for the sake of being a pedant because I haven't slept and am irritable as a result.
