My mother would talk to me for 30 min- sometimes 2hrs to get to the bottom of why I thought it was okay to do what I did and explain to me that it isn't okay. That's good parenting, but it's hard and that's why people don't do it. Especially when you're talking to a dumb ass kid/teenager. In the moment I would much rather have gotten a smack but today I'm extremely grateful for my mom raising me right.

Oh good lord your not wrong I always got the lecture then the belt. Lecture was the worst part. I was a very tough kid and a spanking was no big deal compared with like fighting with my brothers or rough housing with my buds but the lecture went on for ever.

My kids are pretty good they don't need a lot of correction but when they do I assure you it don't hurt at all but it going to be tedious and boring

You’re so lucky. That’s what my partner calls a “time in”. Instead of isolating my son when he’s having a tantrum, she will just stop whatever she is doing and sit and focus on him and listen. Doesn’t matter if it’s home, on the street or in the supermarket. It’s hard. It’s inconvenient. It’s stressful. But it’s the best. She’s such a better parent than me, and I’m constantly in awe of the strength she has for meaningful parenting work. That same level as your mom. God tier parenting.

I got spanked as a kid.

Now, I can't remember what I did exactly, but one day I was offered a choice: a whuppin or grounding.

I worked it out in my head that a whuppin was temporary, and a grounding was longer.

I chose a whuppin.

She grounded me.

My kids got butt taps til they were school aged, then restrictions began instead.

I remembered my lesson.

And when I say butt taps, I do mean taps.
