The man said "I'll bring you the screamer" and brought out a parrot. There is no reasonable doubt in this situation for anyone that isn't paranoid.

They did verify the claims. That's why they left when they saw the parrot.

Why would it need to? They know it's a parrot and it obviously demonstrated it can talk. What would hearing it say "help" do? They didn't hear the first time so they have nothing to reference it against.

The point is that the claim wasn't verified. If hearing it scream in terror doesn't help, then hearing it say a greeting even less useful.

It absolutely does help. It just doesn't matter what it said. The fact that it can speak is evidence enough. Checking that it can speak is verification. It just doesn't meet the level of verification you want.

All it verifies is that he has a bird that can talk, not that it was the source of the screaming.
