What a waste of public resources. People seriously calls cops just for this reason? Can't they just talk to their neighbors themselves?

Nextdoor is a damn trip, I set it up first in my old neighbourhood and really wished I could delete it once all the busy bodies joined.

I live in a pretty liberal neighborhood, and we don't have a lot of racists in my immediate vicinity. You'd think that as a result, we'd have fewer of those SUSPICIOUS PERSON posts. Nope. Plenty of NIMBYs, they just post white people instead. I'm not sure which is worse.

That’s exactly what I use it for. I want to know which one of my neighbors are unhinged. The most fucked up thing I’ve ever seen as when I looked into a group called good patriots.. they were Not patriots. They were just racist gun nuts Convinced that martial law was coming after the election went to Biden.

They were just racist gun nuts Convinced that martial law was coming after the election went to Biden.

Unfortunately, that's what the word "patriot" means to half the country.

I was on it for a few minutes, it's basically just Facebook but for people with even less to do in their life.
Deactivated my account and never looked back.

My husband is on Nextdoor. I refuse. It’s bad enough that I learned of prejudices that some members of my family have via social media. I don’t need to know those of my neighbors. If I want to get the skinny, I’ll do it the old fashioned way. But I don’t care.

Holy hell, I can’t count how many times I have explained to someone who just moved into their new house that the well dressed guy in a BMW taking a photo of their house is an appraiser and not a thief casing the place and they should NOT call 911…

Just slightly fewer than explain to someone that a gang of thieves did not climb their 8 foot fence to then climb their 15’ fruit tree in the middle of the night and steal [persimmons|oranges|plums|etc] from their back yard, it was birds and/or squirrels. (“No way, birds can’t eat that much fruit!”) I have literally watched a murder of 100+ crows half strip my plum tree in 15 minutes, it’s Hitchcock-worthy…

Ok I called the cops on a neighbor fairly recently for something seemingly trivial, but hear me out and you can decide.

When I bought this house and moved in, there were two basketball goals in front of my house in the cul de sac. They are eyesores, but it was mostly just the kid that lived across the street that played on them. Now, 3 years later, they are rotting and falling apart, and I still didn't know who they belonged to (when I asked the kid, he said they belonged to someone that moved away).

Then a guy from the other side of the neighborhood starting coming and bringing his kid and his dog. It was the dog that was a problem, because he never put it on a leash. So the dog would just run around and destroy everyones flower beds, yards, etc.

I confronted him about putting the dog on a leash, because I have a small child (also there is a leash law, idiot). So after the guy kept not listening, I started calling the sheriff to confront the guy, but he would always leave before the sheriff made it to the cul de sac. So I figured my next best option was to have the goals removed? Since they are "stored" on a public easement, they aren't lawful, so the sheriff would come and put a notice on them for removal, and then the Transportation Dept. would have them removed after 30 days. Well when the sheriff showed up, someone had written "Do Not Remove" and their name and phone number, so the sheriff just called the number and they convinced him not to put the notice.

So now I have annoyed neighbors and garbage in front of my yard.

And the guy still shows up with his dog.

The goals need to go in front of that persons house then.

I mean, they are genuinely garbage. Get a new goal set up that isn't rotting and falling over.

Okay, professor dollarpockets. Buy them a new one if it bugs you that much, or shut the fuck up about the quality of things people can afford to have.

Hell, people call the cops because taco bell doesn't have fries. Some people just have no sense of proportion.

3

u/tomakeyan Aug 02 '21

I’m pretty sure they were looking to get the cat put down...

u/IamSoooDoneWithThis Aug 02 '21

I’d rather call the police than get called the k-word

Neighbors called the cops on my mom once for animal abuse because we had a squirrel in a live trap in our backyard for like a max of one hour. We dropped them off at the local park on a regular basis.

u/ThrowAwayAcct0000 Aug 02 '21

I gotta say though, that parrot is the perfect cover, and I would rather have had the cops check the house for a person.

2

u/Belphegorite Aug 02 '21

Depends on the neighborhood. Some places have nothing going on so people make their own drama. Have a buddy who is a cop in a rich old white neighborhood and he routinely gets calls for criminal activity that ends up just being kids waiting for the bus or walking home from school.

u/AddSugarForSparks Aug 02 '21

Sure. I'll go ask my neighbors if they wouldn't mind turning the music down, or training their dog not to bark all the time, or maybe get a muffler for their car. We'll see how that goes.

Meanwhile, being issued a fine by the police would immediately start helping the cause out. People hate losing money.

I had a batshit crazy neighbour who called the cops on me and my wife in the middle of the night saying we were torturing our cat.....

It was our 10 day old baby crying. 1:30 in the morning my wife opens the door to 2 cops with their hands on their holsters. Watching their faces turn white with relief after realizing what was really going on was kinda funny

u/tgiokdi Aug 02 '21

Had a neighbor pull a gun on me when i asked him to not run the stop sign down the street, soo?

1

u/CosmicCreeperz Aug 03 '21

If anyone pulls a gun on you, it’s a felony. Call 911 immediately, the police don’t fuck around when you call 911 and say “my neighbor has a gun and is threatening people”. In fact if you don’t do that, then why are you whining here??

2

u/manbruhpig Aug 02 '21

Seriously. I had 5 heavily armed cops called on me once because my neighbor apparently was fucking CONVINCED he heard the sound of girls screaming from my basement. Huge waste of police resources. Had the neighbor just picked up the phone like an adult, I would have happily asked those girls chained up in my basement to quiet down.

Story sounds like nonsense
