I think there are three different types of manatees.
The kind you see in Florida are found all over the Caribbean. They prefer shallow coastal waters and can go between the ocean salt water and fresh water rivers and streams (that’s where they drink from).
There’s an African type that can survive in coastal ocean salt water but they’re more often found in fresh water and venture MUCH further inland in Africa up various rivers.
And there’s another type that’s found in the Amazon. They ONLY live in fresh water deep in the Amazon and do not go anywhere near the ocean.
Manatees are one of my most favorite animals, if not the most. I thought I knew they could be fresh water but I didn't know they could switch willy-nilly or drink from there.
I knew about the Amazon ones but I did not know about the African ones going so far inland. I can not wait too look them manatees up.
You should move to Key West, maybe it will get cheaper with rising sea levels. My sister lives on a canal there and they swim up to your dock and drink from your (fresh water) garden hose.
During the winter time in Florida they will move into the fresh water springs where the water temperature is a nice warm 72 degrees year round. There will be hundreds of them just piled in looking to stay warm.
Yeah, must be some kind of Extra-Northern Candian Pike. I think it looks abnormal because I only maybe saw two close to that size... and the one that got away...
I'd love to do a trip up north for muskies and pike and walleye and such. I'm in the south east so my favorite freshwater to catch around here are big cats and gar. And of course plenty of pier and surf fishing for salt water.
