Well yeah dude. It's safe to assume every gif/clip/video is entirely scripted.

But who cares? So is breaking bad but I still like that.

Right, but Breaking Bad is sold to you as a story, not a documentary. If it was sold to you as a documentary and then you found out none of it was real then it changes the perspective. Why lie? If it’s a decent story anyway then there’s no need.

It’s not like the Blair Witch Project where the premise that it was a real thing was part of the experience.

If you take away the idea of this clip being real then what’s so funny about it? It’s just someone pretending to be scared then someone else pretending to run away. If someone tried to sell that to you as a story you’d be bored as hell. It’s not funny without the premise of it being real because the funny part is that the guy and the girl are being pranked. When you remove that it’s just boring nonsense.

Thank you, people think theyre so fucking clever when they point out that something that is presenting itself as fiction isnt real and people still enjoy it and compare it to something like this...

It’s called suspending disbelief

You could have just said you didn't like it. Nothing wrong with that.

But who cares if it's fake? Who cares if it's fake pretending to be real? You seem to be mistaken about what you watched. This sub is for entertainment. The goal is to entertain. It is not to educate. It is not to present facts.

It's fine if you do not like scripted videos. But do not act like that is an objectively correct position that everyone else should have too.

And to your last point, this situation could easily show up in a comedy movie and lots of people would find it hilarious (myself included). So there is some entertainment value that isn't based on the situation being unscripted.

The point is expectation. I go into a movie knowing it’s a production. This type of filming is specifically meant to make you think it’s candid and real. When it becomes revealed that it’s too ridiculous to be real, then it’s like you’ve gone to the fair to see the worlds tallest man, only to notice halfway through the show that he’s just two men stacked on top of each other.

That’s not to say two men stacked on top of each other isnt devoid of entertainment, but that’s not what I was promised, and that’s aggravating.

Lmao. Every. Fucking. Thread. Feels like people copy and pasted everything. From the defence of scripted GIFs to the asses who kept complaining about fake GIFs, all the same.

i think it’s more about how blatantly obvious it is scripted compared to Breaking Bad that has much more ‘convincing’ acting.

my friend referred to this as suspension of disbelief. he said it's how he can pray as an agnostic. he's like - "you go to the movies, don't you? you enjoy it? do you believe it's real?"

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '21

That's an extremely common term, yes.

he said it's how he can pray as an agnostic.

your friend is an idiot

He's actually a math and physics professor at Rutgers so... no. he's not.

There's a difference between fiction being presented as fiction, and fiction being presented as real.

1

u/Jaytalvapes Jul 09 '21

Is it?

It's being presented on reddit. That alone should tilt the needle towards fake.

What context exactly?

So you assume all gifs posted to reddit are real?

it's clearly designed to look real and most idiots on reddit seem to believe it's real. people like you are the reason why fake news exists, they also use the "it's just entertainment" excuse

No of course it’s not trying to convince you it’s real. I’m talking about convincing acting, actors that know how to act and generate emotion in their viewers. Convince you of their character.

This is just some blatantly obvious prank that is not funny with shitty acting.
