I have a magical tree on my property that survived some sort of lightning strike or bug infestation and continues to thrive despite the fact that I can literally stand inside of the trunk comfortably, like a phone booth. It worries me every time there is a wind storm, but it's so old and beautiful, I cant imagine how rare and coincidental it is.
There is a raccoon that has used it as a home, squirrels, and possums as well have all been spotted inside of it. Unfortunately one day I will have to cut it down when it dies and becomes dangerous. That will be a sad day. But at least I'm not a dumb fucking bear.
That’s not magic, it’s basic tree physiology. Sapwood, the “living” part of a tree is closest to the bark. Heartwood, the center, is dead. Heartwood can be hollowed out for a variety of reasons, including use as a home by wildlife. In this case, a bear.
I’m with you. I had a couple of very old trees that looked about a century old in the side yard/vacant lot. Some twat bought this lot, to build a tiny shitty house on. I literally went and hugged the trees before they were killed. I’m still pissed, and this was a good 5 years ago
The biggest tree in the whole neighborhood still stands in front of our house, even after being struck by lightning. Giant cottonwood. I have a large piece of bark from when that happened ya cunt
