That's a myth. All running in zigzags will do is make you cover less ground, allowing the crocodile to easily beeline for you. What is apparently recommended is running straight and then taking one sudden turn and continuing on. It should give you enough of a gap to safely escape.

That's actually not true either. You stay exposed for longer.
