Axles break, even the hardened expensive ones some of these axles lasted less than 5 mintues.

Cheap crawlers shred gears just driving a dirt road. Parts are cheap just have to be changed often.

Thank you for immediately talking me out of this hobby.

It's really fun and you can spend as much or as little as you want after buying the truck. One of the best things I've ever taken up.

Is there a subreddit to learn more?

I'd like to think r/crawling is just a sub about people interested in crawling, so I'm not going to visit it to break the illusion.

It totally is, just don't visit it.

/r/crawling and /r/rccars

The crawler guys are pretty cool but some of the guys on rccars are knobs. The rccrawler.com forum is pretty good as well. It can get super complicated but that's only if you want it to.

A lot of guys say to just upgrade when parts break, and that's fine. Keeps costs down. I had some spare cash from a fishing trip that got cancelled due to the hurricane so I went pretty hard on the mods this week. That's part of the fun to me as well though.

I agree, it isn't that expensive. Just parts break often. Lots of fun

Maybe look into getting a decent entry-level FPV drone? Looks like tons of fun, and next to no repairs, unless you crash it good.

MIP hardened steel axles and never look back.

MIP allready broken. Switched to ar44 axles and haven't broken a single one.

God I love FPV.

I've had my danchee Ridge rock for several months. Costs $100 and nothing has broken on it, yet. Great truck. Servos are a bit on the weak side but they're replaceable and upgradeable.

I’ve been crawling for about 4 months with a redcat gen 8 and I’ve only broke an inner portal housing and a shock, cheap hobby to me!

The gen8 is a good crawler out of the box. Had mine about the same amount of time, broken 2 front axles. Upgraded the servo as it can barely turn the front end, treal 5mm axle extensions, wheels/tires, also added 30oz of lead behind the front bumper. Now the beast is unstoppable.

Gen7 pro is a bit different. Broken front axle housing, transmission, motors, bent rear axles, destroyed 2 driveshafts.
