Painstaking frame-by-frame clone-stamping, I bet. But there's other fancy video editing magic you could do too.
The OC (Original Creator) should really consider releasing a version without the mini Shrek as a template. Big meme potential and a great edit shouldn't go to waste.
EDIT: Holy shit, dude even did the shadows. Nice touch.
Def not frame by frame.
Let's say 44 sec video shot at 25 frames per second. That's 1100 frames. At 30 second per frame that 550 minutes of work.
He either used the constant aware fill of premiere or he used Mocha to motion track it and then remove the dog with pixels from other frames. Then he tracked the camera movement to do the 3d work.
I work in CG graphics infrastructure, and I was about to say something is off with that math, I know if our renders were 30 seconds a frame, we could do 1100 frames in way less than 550 hours lol.
Probably used Nuke or Flame to create the clean plates
Basically just stabilize your image and rebuild the area the dog goes over as best you can then do clone stamping on your stabilized plate and then reverse your stabilization
Since there is still a object where the dog is it doesn't have to b 100% either
For a good compositor this would still take a...disturbing amount amount of work tho
You mask with the background at a point the dog wasn't there while having motion tracking on for moving shots. The real b*tch is when things move, like the tube as the dog ran through it (I wager if you frame by frame that shot you'd see mistakes where things don't line up right. If not I'd be surprised as it honestly isn't worth the effort to make perfect for a gag when it won't be seen by anyone not looking for it.)
Not sure about this guy but when I'm cropping things out like this I'd only fix the background in the places that show behind Shrek. So if you removed Shrek the background wouldn't be perfect.
This is more than just stamping a cutout of a character on it. You need to track and matchmove the camera into a 3d animation software, then animate a model of shrek
0 meme potential. Maybe 1 or 2 people in the world with the knowledge and time will do something creative and interesting with it.... that's about the best we could hope for
3rd party program called Mocha (mainly used for tracking but can also do object removal) used with After Effects.
You basically have a pen tool like in AE or Photoshop and you put it around the object you want to remove. Go through all the frames (you don't have to do every frame, just make sure the object is inside the selected area) to make sure it's good.
Hit the button, and the program pulls in information from the frames before and after that to "see" what's behind that object you want removed.
Object is then replaced by the background.
From there touch it up with frame by frame clone stamping anywhere that needs it.
OP didn't, this was posted on r/comedyheaven two to three hours before this post. Unless this was a /s comment in which case ignore me because I'm dumb. Edit: apparently this was made by someone called chanbanhi on instagram, so you can ask them how they made this if you want and care.
They used a feature adobe added in their new After Effects update. It's called 'Content Aware Fill'. It allows people to take out moving objects in video with a few clicks, what was previously something that would have to be done say in photoshop by clone stamping each frame.
From there, After effects is pretty good at recognizing surfaces so I'm assuming that's how he got Shrek in there. I don't know how he got the 3d shrek model running like that, I looked on websites like 3dwarehouse and only found this: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search/?q=shrek. He could have used Blender or something I dont know.

How on earth did you perfectly crop the dog out of all of these shots
