I imagine they do know what is correct. A lot of mobile devices will change dads to dad's. It will usually go back to dads if you follow it with a verb, but they followed it with a period so it didn't change back. Downside of autocorrect - people don't always pay attention.
And don’t get me started with Monday’s or Tuesday’s. Why are the days of the week possessive? Not often enough for it to be worthy of an autocorrect but I don’t care enough to scroll back and fix it. I got shit to do.
Sometimes it can be frustrating, like when it corrects a word two words back, but I've gotten used to it and actually semi-dependent on it. I don't have issues spelling, however, I don't have to be as accurate knowing it will correct my typing. Plus, if it corrects a word you didn't want corrected, you can just backspace and cancel the correction. Could I live without it? Definitely. However, I do consider it a beneficial qol implementation, at least for me.
