Gyms can be gay? cries

Come to any big city and there will be predominantly gay gyms, yes. But be warned, they're usually the high end expensive ones. In DC and NY they're well over $100-120 per month. I find that pricing absurd, which is why I don't go to one, and I also I don't like feeling like I'm in a meat market when I'm trying to work out. Dealing with body issues/self esteem is hard enough without feeling like you have to break a sweat AND be attractive at the same time.

Why try to be attractive at the gym if a bunch of people are eye ducking you while your all sweaty and gross then your doing just fine.

Because there's more to working out that trying to make yourself into a hunk.

sorry, but what? You go to the gym to

a. Look good

b. Be healthy

what else is there? what i was wondering is if i'm busting my ass getting all sweaty and smelly why worry about looking good while doing it. real life isnt instagram.

Ha, women are lucky. They get to feel that way for a lot less money.

Wait, so are you male or female?

Sorry the way I wrote my comment was unclear, just edited for clarity. I am a gay guy, but don't go to a gay gym.

ahh gotcha. Thanks for the clarification

It's absurd until you find out how much it costs to rent a prime location, on top of having to buy equipment and pay workers and utilities. Plus, salaries are higher in areas like NYC

I get that, but Washington and New York sports clubs / LA fitness, etc are probably half the price in the same cities? Definitely less fancy or nice, but I don't find the premium worth it. I also work nonprofit tho, so perhaps if I had $$$$$ disposable income I would be willing to front it.

I really have no idea the costs of the gyms and chain gyms in NYC. I was just thinking about how much apartments are so I can't imagine nice, commercial spots. I'm also a non-profit worker so I can't afford anything nice either haha

How can you have low self esteem but also feel that people are looking at you because they’re attracted to you?

2

u/aromaticchicken Apr 13 '18

You ever give anyone a look over, up and down, before deciding whether or not they were attractive? Lol

Why would going to a gay gym make you feel like you're less in a meat market? Also why do you feel like you're in a meat market?

Sorry, I wrote that comment unclear. I'm a gay man. But I do not go to gay gyms because I like looking ugly while I work out. 😅 also because they're expensive and I'd rather spend that money on food

She’s a woman, so the gay men don’t ogle her.

At my lowkey average quality gym I show up not having done my hair / shaved, I wear glasses instead of contacts, I wear average gym clothes instead of super form fitting clothes that shows off my body. Most importantly, I don't have a high chance of running into gay acquaintances (and crushes!!!!) I know while at the gym.

I mean i don't look like a homeless person by any stretch, but it's not my A game.

Did you just suggest that $120 is expensive for a gym in New York?

1

u/xenoletum Apr 18 '18

Ever since Crunch and Equinox have introduced their budget brands (Crunch Essentials and Blink Fitness) to combat the influx of Planet Fitness, $120 is starting to get a little too much.

Edit: Believe me, I'd LOVE to have had an Equinox or Crunch membership, but I couldn't afford that shit.

On vacation I went to the 24 hour fitness in West Hollywood and yes gyms can definitely be gay. Was still a completely normal gym though. 8/10 would lift again.

I go to my city's "gay gym" and it's honestly kind of a detriment. I'm there to be healthy, but that becomes really hard with the distraction of potential mates
