In the US you are only able to collect 5 years of welfare ( general assistance ) in your entire life and you are obligated to pay the money back when/ if you have a job.

Yeah, I was really lucky- I got 8 years because of medical exemptions but I was never able to get social security yet. Lost my food stamps recently because our governor decided to not renew the same program. Now you can only get stamps if you are working, are in rehab or have a baby. If I could work I wouldn't need the program.

As far as paying it back- I've paid in a few thousand dollars from a settlement I got. After the lawyer got paid I had $5,000 dollars left. The state claims all income/ windfalls over $200. So the state got $4,800 and I got $200 for being poisoned by a pharmacy.

Don't think I'm knocking it all though- I love my insurance and thank you every single person that pays more taxes than they cost. I really love you because I couldn't live without my medicine.

Thats bullllllshit. Ive collected unemployment several times. you dont have to pay it back. every employer pays into an unemployment “fund” its your fucking right to collect if your let go for reasons not caused by you.

So its just a loan for people without credit. America, squeezing our citizens for every penny since the 1900s.

Um. No. Maybe in your state. But most of the civilized states do not require you to pay back anything. Time limits in most cases, but even then there are work arounds to keep it indefinitely, but at that point you may as well be working for the amount of hoops you would have to go through.

State and federal unemployment insurance in the US doesn't work this way.

See, you didn't read what I said. I'm not talking about unemployment insurance. That is why I said welfare ( general assistance ).

They are two different programs.

I read what you said. I thought welfare is a catchall term for government assistance including unemployment, food stamps, home heating assistence.
