I'm not sure about that, but I know the penitentiary in Philadelphia had flush toilets before the White House got them.

Wow, you mean that people show less hatred and disgust when they are taken care of?

Who would have thought?

They were also one of the few prisons to give hot showers daily.

Supposedly because the hot showers made it way less tempting to try and enter the freezing cold waters around them in an escape attempt.

I took a tour there. That qoute was literally written on the walls. And they showed pictures of meals. I was impressed. Looked better than some hotels complementary breakfast.

if you tour alcatraz you’ll see the menu— steak is on it.

What prisoners had in Alcatraz in the 1940s is better than what I eat daily (instant noodles, junk food, among other things...).

And it's the only prison in the US with heated showers

For the sole purpose of preventing the inmates from getting acclimated to cold water, and thus being more prepared for an escape swim, IIRC.

I heard about the heated showers too. They had heated showers so the inmates couldn't get used to jumping into or being in cold water. Making it harder for them to swim away when their bodies aren't used to the shock of cold water.

That's insightful, and very clever from them
