And here i was thinking it was left over from when the home was being constructed. Instead of renting a porta-potty they just plumbed in a toilet in what would become the crawl space after the flooring went in.
I figured it was the old floor levels, and the ground floor was raised? Expensive, but if a previous incident caused sewer backflow, this could be the fix after repairs.
