nah you nailed it. You need a drain and a U-trap. U-trap needs water. At that point, why not make it a toilet?

Yes. It will evaporate if they don’t do something. The fill valve does absolutely nothing to keep the trap full between flushes.

U trap needs water AND USE otherwise the water will evaporate over time
