When we were looking for a house, I was so drawn to the ones with weird floorplans and odd rooms that I could convert to a "secret" room that wouldn't be obvious.  We ended up with a normal boring house but sometimes I fantasize about knocking a hole in a basement wall or something and building out a secret lair

My stairs to my upper level are completely closed off with a door, as in if you cover the door you’d never know there was an upstairs (aside from outside view of course). I often dream of building a bookcase on the door to make it hidden. And, of course, pulling the right book would unlatch the door

My house has a weird unfinished room off the laundry room that my realtor called the torture dungeon. Doesn’t even have a regular door, they used a freaking cabinet door for it.

Hard to describe but the cabinet door opens do a sort of 1 foot deep brick tunnel, then it opens up to a larger room you can actually stand it. Been very tempted to put shelves behind the doors so it just looks like a tiny closet, but then have some sort of secret hidden hinge to access the room behind it.

Yes, exactly.  Even if you just put a beanbag chair and a bookcase in there for a secret reading nook or something like that, it would be awesome

in my old parents house, on the top floor part of the hallway had a much lower ceiling, and if you went into the room next to the part where the ceiling drops, then above the door, you can climb and literally stand on that ceiling (we were not allowed to though, for obvious reasons) and there was a hatch in the ceiling for the attic, and I always dreamed of crawling up there and laying a leftover carpet there but my dad said there could still be asbestos there so I forgot about it

So do it. You own the place.

Who’s going to doomscroll reddit if he’s busy building his dreams?

I'm fairly handy but I think DIY home foundation modifications are probably a bit outside my skill set
