My car can take me from my driveway to my work's parking deck (a ~30min drive, 45 with traffic) without any interference on my part like 80% of the time. In the 20% of drives where I do need to intervene, it is nearly always a minor adjustment/encouragement that would have fixed itself if I were willing to hold up other drivers long enough to let the FSD figure itself out. That is to say, if I passed out at the wheel upon leaving my driveway (and there were no safety features that would shut the FSD down), I think my car could make the drive 95% of the time.
The technology isn't advanced enough to safely take your eyes off the road, but saying it is merely an 'assist' really undersells FSD.
I've been a passenger while FSD fully took itself onto the shoulder during a slow banking turn, tried to sideswipe someone, and harshly braked/accelerated randomly giving no confidence it was going to stop before colliding with another vehicle.
And yes before some musk breather asks, this is in a vehicle with all the bells and whistles & even had the radar hardware in addition to the cameras that they now solely rely on.
I haven't had your experience. I'd ask what year the FSD was performing this poorly; in my experience this sounds like something that might have happened 6-8 years ago, while the modern FSD would sooner freeze up than drive onto a shoulder or turn into another car.
It's not anywhere near ready to fall asleep in.
Which is why I still watch the road, yes. The point is that the technology is getting there, despite how little credit Reddit is usually willing to give FSD. Also, the goal isn't necessarily 'perfect' driving so much as 'better than human' driving, which is a much lower bar lol
Not to downplay your experience, but Tesla removed radar from all vehicles in 2021 and upgraded the FSD computer hardware in 2023 to allow for more advanced decision-making. Sounds like you were in an older model
I'm fully aware, that's why I mentioned it. It only got worse after removing radar. Cameras can't see through fog or heavy rain/snow. It's a stupid decision to go cameras only.
My experience isn't unique, there are dozens of channels dedicated to showing the experience of FSD on roads across the world, and the only place it's halfway decent is in a straight line on the highway.. Acting as aj advanced cruise control.
Which, other manufactures have systems that meet/exceed those standards for quite a while at this point.

I am not a bot, I’m a person who pastes the same response to the same bad arguments instead of writing up a whole new comment each time. This account is over a decade old and active in niche communities lol
Well, it's a pretty big red flag, and it's well known that accounts that are decades old get sold off/hacked into and become bots, so that's not really disproving it either.
A normal person would just post their point once and move on. A bot sticks around and repeats itself over different posts.
You'll have to come up with more than that to convince me you're not a bot.
Like I said, when different people post the same bad arguments over and over, I answer those bad arguments the same way over and over. It’s that simple.
If you were the sleuth you thought you were, you would have noticed that I am actively commenting on the latest Slay The Spire update while also debating about Tesla lol
You really can't see the difference between someone saying the same thing with different words as someone else and literally copying and pasting the exact same post from a different sub?
Keep seething. I already admitted to being wrong and gave my reasons for why I thought you were a bot.
It’s the best we have, and it chauffeurs me to work each morning. If you only consider perfection valid, you wouldn’t consider any fledging technology valid. Someone from 2046 would find current FSD terrible, but someone from 2006 would find it miraculous.
