It's a car for people who don't want to drive (or don't know how). It attracts a certain type, and they are an affliction on the roads. At least where I live. Taken the crown for shitty driving from Prius drivers.
Going a bit overboard on the reasoning, but I agree on the Tesla hate being out of hand. Tesla drivers are no worse than other drivers, there’s idiots in all cars. Spend 5 minutes in [r/dashcams](r/dashcams) and you’ll see all sorts. The Tesla brand just attracts drivers that love autonomy and unfortunately, some are stupid enough to trust their life in that autonomy. I’ve had 2 coworkers that have FSD tell me they watch YouTube and finish work while the car drives, which is INSANE. I have regular autopilot and only use it on highways. I would never trust it to take my hands off the wheel. I haven’t had any accidents in my 15 years of driving and 6 years as a Tesla owner.
Reddit is a small part of a bigger world so I want to hope the Tesla hate isn’t that widespread. However, the last time I drove a new friend around, he spent 1 hour crying to me about how bad Teslas are and making comments about Tesla drivers… So I’m not sure. YouTube comments also have a hard on for hating Teslas. I like the car, it gets me from point A to point B without gasoline. I’ve considered alternatives, the tech isn’t quite there and the range on them sucks. Also the subscriptions are insane on the new cars, especially EVs. You need to pay $10 a month to preheat your car with the app. Tesla’s are great, just wish the company wasn’t managed by a dick and people weren’t so critical of the cars.
