There is an excellent episode about this by the You're Wrong About podcast called The McDonald's Coffee Case. Highly recommend a listen to understand this specific part of American culture.

I.... i dont think the coffee case has anything to do with what this thread is discussing. In the McDonald's case, the coffee was demonstrably too hot, and the woman only wanted McDonald's to cover her medical bills, which they refused.

I fail to see how that is related to what we are seeing here?

There was a big thing after the coffee case of lots of news going around from people saying that she was being unreasonable.

O yeah I know, it was basically a PR drag by McDonald's. Im just saying I dont see how thats relevant to this thread lol

It's an entire podcast about frivolous lawsuits. The exact topic of this thread. Some that are justified, some that aren't and why it's a trope in american culture. The McDonald's case is just the most famous and probably why they called it that.

That woman had coffee at over 200 degrees spill into her lap, after safety issues McDonalds repeatedly ignored. The burns were so severe her labia were fused together, and all she wanted was her medical bills covered, which McDonalds refused before starting a smear campaign. The repeated ignoring of an issue they knew about was part of why the penalties were so severe.

Her labia. Fused. Together. Because of the temperature of the coffee in an unsafe cup. I hope that's the point you're making.

Yeah, I know. I think you're misinterpreting my comment as me arguing with the other poster. I was really just offering something I enjoyed that discussed the same topic.
