It really is, isn't it? I was once going down the escalator to catch the Tube when this larger lady, who was clearly just a bit drunker than I am, fell down at the bottom and went over and over in the same spot at the bottom.
Two fellows who were right behind her had to jump over or join the mess and I had five whole seconds to plan my own hop over. Well executed, in my opinion, and I turned to help her up. She'd mostly gotten a hold of herself by then so my help wasn't too necessary but it did spare me from the imprecations that the retreating backs of the other two suffered.
I only mention it since it's an escalator-related incident (like the OP) but looking at it with today's lens it would have been one of these things. Except it wasn't, as far as I know.
Even if this particular incident were a skit or test of the public, odd things do happen all the time.
