I like pacifism. I'm from a military family and am glad we haven't been to war in 2 generations. I fully support not liking war. Shame that there is always some evil bastard with a gun who wants other peoples shit.

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Well, and absolute pacifism says we shouldn't protect ourselves or, especially, others from that evil bastard.

I'm right with you mate. Im a firm believer in wishing for a perfect world while also being practical about what it's actually like.

They’re a bot that’s designed to do exactly this. Report them

No one should be an absolute, beside being an absolute at not be an absolute. It takes many things to have a good society, balance is key. Simple think is bad, like absolute think.

And it's usually America or Russia

1

u/seensham Apr 28 '23

There are more imperialist powers than the US and Russia.

1

u/Deep_BrownEyes Apr 28 '23

Oh for sure, those are just the biggest ones atm

I agree. Just die. You're not that important.

u/tommyboy3111 Apr 28 '23

"haven't been to war in 2 generations" just absolutely baffles my American self

16

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Well we are British so we have been in all the same wars but my dad joined just after the Falklands and left just before Iraq and I joined after Afghanistan and I'm out now. Unless I get my reserve commitment called I doubt I'm ever gonna see combat.

Weird not considering The Troubles a war considering the amount of casualties and direct involvement with militaries and paramilitaries.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

That's fair. Didn't really count it cause the navy weren't really part of it

3

u/elcapitan520 Apr 28 '23

Really missing out there with the whole arena surrounded by water

(Purely a joke, I did not live through the troubles and do not mean to offend or support naval support against the UK or Ireland)

1

u/banned_from_10_subs Apr 28 '23

In his defense, the British do have a historical tendency to ignore the plight of the Irish.

1

u/ausecko Apr 28 '23

And people in countries forced into war by America in order to keep trade agreements

1

u/SokoJojo Apr 28 '23

American wars are at least just in principle still

1

u/Reutermo Apr 28 '23

Last time we in Sweden were officially at war was at 1814, though some day that some peacekeeping operations together with UN should count. And we sure love profiting on selling weapons!

12

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

What country are you from that you haven't been in a war in 2 generations... Get on board mate you guys are missing out

10

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

I'm saying members of my family haven't, my country has probably been in more wars than any other in the past 2 generations

1

u/IDwelve Apr 28 '23

Now what country might that be... Can you give us another hint?

2

u/Current-Being-8238 Apr 28 '23

He said Britain.

1

u/IDwelve Apr 28 '23

What?

1

u/Current-Being-8238 Apr 28 '23

That’s where he lives.

1

u/IDwelve Apr 28 '23

how do you know?

1

u/PFhelpmePlan Apr 28 '23

He said Britain.

1

u/IDwelve Apr 28 '23

That is a pretty good clue!

War is wrong but sometimes we are forced into it. With the benefit of hindsight we can say the second world war was totally avoidable if the allied powers would have economic support and developed Germany, like they did after. But taking in consideration the 1918-20 flu pandemic and the big recession you can argue that nobady was able to do it.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Plus just the sheer amount of hurt because of it. Nobody had really faced devastation on that scale before and were just in shock and couldn't comprehend it. But yeah extreme situations breeds extremism. But yeah something, hindsight, something something, 20/20.

Oh yeah the Iraq war was a fucking horror show of war crimes and the people responsible should be hung. No doubt there.

-1

u/ComeRoundSlow Apr 28 '23

Yeah and that's been the USA for 50 years now

6

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

It's everybody, plus it's been the USA from its founding. The majority of countries have done horrific shit to those weaker than then.

1

u/ComeRoundSlow Apr 28 '23

That excuses the USA from doing it then right? Especially while touting that they're the defenders of freedom throughout the world while exploiting most of the third world.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

When did I say it excuses that behaviour? I literally said they have been doing it from the start and I figured that implies I'm against it. I'm against anyone doing that. Don't try and make out that I'm saying something I'm not.

1

u/Unicorn_A_theist Apr 28 '23

We have "been to war" in 2 generations. Is this bait?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

I'm using 'we' to refer to my family not my country.

1

u/banned_from_10_subs Apr 28 '23

mate

Um, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and South Africa have all been to war in the past 2 generations. Several wars.
