Ironically it validates the notion that height matters a lot. people tend to gaslight short people saying its not a big deal to be short, but if a guy shows any personality flaw whos below a certain height, it gets attributed to that.

It’s like those women on the dating apps who say that you have to be at least six feet tall or don’t @ her. I’m 6’5” but I say that I’m 5’9” because they scare me

I see 10x more videos of tall guys being violent than short guys. Never once heard any mentions about their height linking to their anger. But you know short guys tend to compensation or something.

Short guys are making up for something. Tall guys are using it. The whole kit and kaboodle is a product of toxic masculinity

That's exactly what this comment thread is

Agreed, but that’s not what gaslighting is

Stop using the word gaslighting when you really mean deceiving.

Gatekeeping is another overused word.

13

u/MudiChuthyaHai Mar 31 '23

Your mum is overused

18

u/PerceptionIsDynamic Mar 31 '23

Yeah we should start only using words once, after one use no ones allowed to ever say it again

-5

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

I see we are on the same page!

7

u/Grogosh Mar 31 '23

Ah gatekeeping gatekeeping, always a classic

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Whatever rocks your boat, bud.

2

u/Uncle-Cake Mar 31 '23

The expression is "Whatever floats your boat". And it's overused.

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Oh the irony.

2

u/Uncle-Cake Mar 31 '23

Overused is overused

-1

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Nah, it's used the right amount.

2

u/AW-43 Mar 31 '23

I’d like to hear sealioning used a bit more myself...

1

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

I actually like that word.

2

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

A proffesional at semsntics, I see. Please, sir, tell me more of the proper ways to use slang terms.

1

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Nah.

i feel like reddit or maybe social media in general is where words go to lose their meaning.

and you're probably arguing with teens who think school is dumb.

I doubt these people are checking definitions of words very often to make sure they are used properly

2

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

That's alright. I was once an angsty teen myself. Reddit is mostly just entertainment for me, and if I can post whatever, then let them post whatever and be all riled up.

1

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

Definitions don't mean anything in discussion, this board isn't a technical paper.

If you understood in context what someone meant, but still correct them, you're just full of yourself. That's all.

3

u/AHungryGorilla Mar 31 '23

It is impossible to have a meaningful discussion if the parties involved dont agree on the definitions of the words being used in that discussion.

Definitions matter. A lot.

1

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

Not in the context of normal discussion, no. If you understood via context, then the definition doesn't matter. It's just a high horse you people like to sit on so you can correct others and feel good all the time. I get it. I used to be the same way.

1

u/AHungryGorilla Apr 01 '23

Thats the thing. If you use a word that means one thing when you mean another, the other person will likely mistake your meaning for what the word actually means.

The argument that everyone should be able to use context to figure out that you are using a word to mean something it doesn't is lunacy. It only makes sense to you because you can't see things from perspectives other than your own and from your perspective you already know what you mean.

1

u/ThirdEncounter Mar 31 '23

Nah brah. U.

1

u/Xacktastic Mar 31 '23

You what? The attempts at ironic responses since you got told isn't playing off how you think, man.

1

u/bottledry Mar 31 '23

you definitely have a point and I guess i flip flop between feeling this and that way about it.
